Cats of Skiathos

Like all Greek islands or any island large or small, cats are present everywhere!

They are captivating and enchanting. Even the most down trodden, ragged and miserable is a testimony to their survival against the odds.

Skiathos has an unusual strategy to keep the population down. The trainee vets come over to the Island and neuters the newly created balls of fluff - well not strictly true, they wait until they're so many months old. It's much better and more humane than culling. They leave a distinguishing mark comprising a notch out of the cats ear left for boys right for girls -or the other way I can't quite remember.
