As a computer science student in my second year in the university, i have always wanted to use computer to create something. But thus far academically we spend the whole two years in school studying mathematics and other courses.
Although i had some basic computer skills, i could work with application packages like Ms word, excel, power point Coreldraw and other application, Coreldraw was my favorite because i used it to design cartoon characters, but this skills were nothing compared to what i imagined.
As i was admitted to the university, i do had in mind that a degree in computer science was gonna give me a deep sense of operations of the computer and also equip me with the most advanced skill sets, yet after two good years in school i got nothing to show
After my second year, i was to go for a three month Student Industrial attachment, figured out how i could actually spend this three months effectively. i searched the internet and found a software company, i applied for the three month internship,
I was accepted and resumed the following week, i was given access to free internet, and i was given assignment to learn the basics of the internet and Websites, my instructor introduced me to W3school where i started learning the basics of website development
After a week of intense and passionate learning, i was able to design a basic website using HTML and CSS, i played around with it and created web pages, ** it was magical to see myself writing codes that actually works
**
I further improved my web development skill and learnt PHP and JavaScript, it was really challenging to learn this programming language because i had little knowledge of programming languages, i also learnt database development and the query language SQL,
with all this skill set i was not able to complete a professional website that is standard, responsive and efficient, but i got introduced to Wordpress
The WordPress platform is a very powerful CMS, which allows users to create stunning and functional professional website without having to deal with codes as much,it reducess the stress of creating a website. It is estimated that about 70 percents of websites around the world are running on WordPress, that shows how powerful is the platform.
learning WordPress was not difficult for me because i was so determined to create a standard website, i learnt WordPress developmet within 2 weeks and i developed my first standard web site on my system using Wamp server i kept on learning and improving on my designs.
I showed my instructor my works and he was so impressed, he assigned me to a team who were already working on a project, i worked together with them and learnt how to use the server back end; the cPanel and how to setup the database on the server,
Ever since then i single executed other web development projects on my own without anyone's interference. During my remaining weeks of internship i worked on about six different project, and earned my first salary. till today i still build sites that are beautiful, functional, standard and professional.
