On skis the weight is divided into two points, while on a snowboard is collected in one. Which is really fastest?
The highest speed reached on skis is staggering 254.96 kilometers per hour, while the record for snowboarding "only" is 203.28 kilometers per hour.
Even under more ordinary conditions, skis are faster than snowboarding.
The difference is first and foremost that the friction is greater for a snowboard. A snowboard, though, has only one contact surface with the snow, while the skis have two, but the touch surface - and hence the friction - is greatest for a snowboard.
This is due, among other things, to the fact that the snowboard was initially built to perform stunts and not to move fast, while the development of skis was about increasing speed.
