Sunday skiing trip - Steinbruvann and beyond

This has become sort of a standard when the four of us manage to get out skiing (unfortunately I've given up getting the fifth family member out of the house, the 14th year old boy does what he wants to do) - we drive by car to the nearest parking place (geo:59.97104,10.88205). It's one steep uphill in the start, except for that just small hills. There are several lakes, the second lake is the biggest, Steinbruvann.

So ... here is a nice picture of my finger, and Steinbruvann to the left.

This road used to be the main road between Oslo and Bergen, and here my son is trying to read some information about the old road.

My son got this strange idea that he should use only one skiing rod ... "like they did in the old days". So I was walking with the other one for a while, holding my daughter in the hands with the other rod. But then my daughter decided she wanted to use a rod as well. Very nice with telescopic skiing rods that can relatively easily be adjusted. I guess we'll need to buy another pair of those.

Just by the skiing track there is a cache of wood and a grill ... and a garbage bin as well. Well, most of the wood is gone now - and the wood that is left is not much dry, but we (well, my wife) decided to have a go at it anyway.

I'm wondering quite much about this. It has actually become quite normal with public grills, both in parks, by the seaside ... but this is first time I've seen something like this in the forest. I'm quite sure it's a public grill, I think nobody would construct a private grill right there, right by the road, and very far from the nearest private buildings. And the cache of wood? I have no idea, I've never before seen a public cache of wood - it has to be public, it's right by the public road, far away from any private buildings, with no signs telling it's private, and even with a garbage bin at the same place. The only possible purpose is to be useful for people passing by wanting to light up a fire and grill something. It baffles me. Maybe to protect the local trees from being chopped down by people that want some firewood? Maybe to encourage people to use the safe fireplace rather than light up "wild" fires in the forest, with the risk of forest fires? I don't know. Picture taken by Romstjern, geo:59.98567,10.88956

I was a bit annoyed that we had our break mostly in the shadow, when there was so much sunshine on the lake - so we went over the lake after our break.

We did a big circle and got back to the skiing track. Then we decided to just head back home. Not a very long skiing trip, but it was nice anyway.

If you happen to have lost a drone at Romstjern, get in touch ...

The moderate downhills are the best for the children ... but anyway, it feels a lot safer when having a hand to hold.
