Wingsuit flight path

I always forget to turn on my Flysight GPS before leaving the plane, but I remembered on this 6 way wingsuit skydive.

It is a small black box that I have attached to the back of my skydive helmet. It can be used to collect data on your wingsuit skydive, such as glide ratio, vertical/horizontal speeds, time in freefall, altitude and a lot of other useful information.

It also has audio if you plug your earphones in, and it can tell you whether you are flying in the right direction, which is helpful for if you are above thick cloud, and also if you are in competition and you need to stay in your lane.

You can see where I exited the plane and the flight path I took before deploying my parachute.

We flew up wind towards and over the mall, and I was pulling at 5,000ft and the rest of the flock were pulling at 3,500ft so they continued heading West, back to the airfield. The small red line you see continuing after I finish my flight is me under canopy heading back to the airfield also, and I turned it off shortly after. This is the path the other wingsuiters took before deploying their parachutes.

The distance they would have travelled and their freefall time would have been considerably more than mine with that extra 1,500ft of flight time they had.

Apparently if any shoppers at the mall looked up they would have seen 6 wingsuiters gliding above them haha, as it was such a clear day.

When I first started wingsuiting I used to concentrate on getting the slowest vertical speed I could, and I think I got it to around 30mph. I have since learned to concentrate more on forward speed and angle of attack for distance. In this case I was wingsuiting with 5 other sky divers, so we all need to match speed to stay together. One jumper is the 'base', they exit the plane first and fly the agreed pattern, and the rest of us fly down to the base and fit in to an agreed slot so we can all flock together.

Provided everyone gets a good exit from the plane, we should all end up flying next to each other in under 20 - 25secs.

Here is what the Flysight looks like, it is secured by a strap, but I also then put a little bit of green duct tape over it as I have lost one before due to the strap coming loose when I went unstable once.

Remember to turn it on when you are on the ground for 1 minute so it can locate some Satellites, then turn it off until you are in the plane ready to exit.
