Oslo - Korketrekkeren #3

in sledding •  7 years ago

It's easter holidays those days in Norway - schools are closed, kindergarden are closed, Thursday-Monday is official public holidays, and most of the parents who can take vacation from work Mon-Wed takes vacation from work those days. Due to the excellent weather and skiing conditions we're having now, I decided to change my plans and took the day today off. Except, children didn't want to do skiing (and we're planning a skiing trip from Friday to Sunday), so we went sledding instead. Third time this year and fourth time totally that I've been there. You can find more photos at my previous post.

No pictures from the hill itself this time, either. The 246 meters height difference, and it goes very fast ... and if one is to catch the next metro one doesn't really have time to stop. But ... here are some pictures from the metro:

The view is magnificent ... those crappy cellphone pictures does not really convey it very well. There are relatively few trees and one gets to see both the Oslo fjord and valleys as the metro twists itself upwards towards the top.

The view can also be studied from the restaurant - one can see big parts of Oslo, most of the downtown area, quite big parts of the fjord.

This time we rented sleds at the restaurant rather than at the sledding association. I usually chose the latter because it's cheaper and because the money is going toward children activities - but if being two persons on one sled, the ones from the restaurant are far better, as they have a bigger sitting area. Get the ass outside the sitting area in one of the bumps, and it will hurt a lot. My son was also quite happy that the helmets came with sunglasses.

I lost my cellphone and spent more than two hours searching for it ... but I'll make a separate post about that.

Last picture is from the Majorstuen metro, with the Holmenkollen skiing jump centrally on the photo. The sledding hill passes not so far away from that skiing hill. I took several photos, due to the sunshine it was difficult getting a photo where both the metro and the skiing hill was bright and visible, more photos on the IPFS link below.

its so nice to see this korketrekeren is one of my favorite activities.
this is one of the things I recommend people who visit
Oslo in the winter to do.
but my favorite is fat bike biking in the dark. a I often end up on vettakollen and u can hear the laughter and see people going down the hill.

We didn't get to Vettakollen this easter, we went skiing from Frognerseteren via Kikutstuen to Ammerud. Probably some 40 km. I suppose that's a day trip for the sportsmen starting early morning, having the skiing equipment optimized for going in the skiing tracks, and doing this regularly. For us it was three solid days.

I'm glad you ended up finding your phone. Enjoy your holiday <3 <3
