Guinea Minnow: End of Week 1 Status Report

in sliderfest •  7 years ago  (edited)

So here I am, finished my first week as a Guinea Minnow. My slider has been getting a heck of a workout. I don't think I can give it up now that I've tried it. And hopefully I won't have to. I might have to power down a bit of steem to sell if I run low on SBD for renting a delegation, but I think my slider might just pay for a new delegation in income value. This one I have @GMuxx and @swelker101 to thank for as a test run for Sliderfest. Be sure to tune in to the Shane and Muxxy show if you are eligible, so you have a shot at winning your own slider!

So I took screen shots last night, about an hour later than I should, since silly Google Calendar sent the reminder to my phone instead of my tablet so I didn't see it. The thing to remember is that curation pays out when the post pays out, whether I am curating comments or posts themselves. So most of my curation rewards coming in this week were based on my pre-Sliderfest voting power, only I used it for a lot of comment curation on a post that paid out yesterday morning and I had also picked up a few other posts that were close to payout during the week.

To anyone with a slider, I definitely recommend comment curation, both on your own post and on others. It's a great way to provide positive reinforcement for people who interact intelligently (something often lacking) and give them a reason to come on back to your posts. And the payouts are not trivial compared to post curation.

My initial status screenshot showed that I had had a weekly curation income of 0.135 STEEM POWER. (See images in Guinea Minnow Opening Status for the previous status reports I refer to here.)

Well, check out last night's status report:

Yup. It really says 0.913 STEEM POWER. So my payouts have already increased 0.778 SP. And that's with only a portion of the week's income being from after my power boost. A huge amount of that payout, if you look at the curation shown on that screen, is from COMMENTS on @RhondaK 's first post about Bailey--the pup that has now been saved by Steemit. Helping Rhonda help Bailey was important to me, so I upvoted all the human comments supporting her efforts to save Bailey. I don't expect all my comment curation will pay so much. This one partly paid so well because a few other more power people who took Bailey's well-being seriously also upvoted a number of the human comments. Rhonda can still use more support for pups like Bailey, so please consider continuing to throw upvotes her way or possibly pledging all or part of a post's SBD payout to her rescue efforts, like I'm doing with this post.

But one of the curations visible in that list is for a relatively small post by @CarolKean (I recommend you check her out if you don't know her. She's a brilliant woman, a talented editor, and she has a quirky and entertaining sense of humor. I fail to understand why more of her posts don't get upvoted.). I got .003 for it. I "used to" get .001 for a lot of curation, even with higher value posts. And with my slider I can throw around a whole lot more votes even if they only are low payouts.

So what else did I screen shot last time.... My wallet.

If you're wondering what that power stuff means and why it doesn't show a 500 SP delegation to me, let me explain. It shows that I have 216.53 STEEM POWER of my own (last time I had 205.72... none of my post payouts in the past week have been very big, so I haven't grown very much). Then underneath it shows the result of all delegations--both incoming and outgoing. The reason that number is so much less than the 500 I got for Sliderfest is because I have delegated SP to both @sft and @muxxybot. Two projects that mean a heck of a lot to me (If you're looking for projects to support, I recommend both. Feel free to ask me here or on Discord about why I support them). I'm holding off on further delegations until I have 500SP of my own and get my own slider. I've heard some discussion that having some of your power delegated away, so you lower your effective SP, may delay the slider. If anyone can confirm or deny that, I'd love to know for sure.

Let's see... my power has recovered fully from my preslider madness, despite my propensity for excessive voting. I even get near 100% most mornings. This is from last night. After I screenshotted, I headed out and did some more voting before I went to bed, so I didn't waste any potential voting power that I'd recover overnight. I think it was almost 99% when I woke up this morning. My 100% vote last week showed at 7 cents. Now I am usually 8. A couple days there it was 9 with an upswing in Steem and then I'd even managed to throw 1cent votes at only 6%. But I've noticed with the fall again that one I'd voted 1 cent now shows as 0, so in future I will try to minimum upvote 7-9% so it stays 1 cent on the downturns also since the value at payout matters, not the value when I voted.

And the steemd post in case anyone wants to compare to last week's. Yup, I'm a voting looney! If you want more info on my voting history over the past week, you can put my username into your favorite Steem tool. They're all on the blockchain.

Thanks to @swelker101, I found a new tool for tracking my curation moneys. I haven't fully made sense of what all the numbers mean, but at least I can compare them to each other. The first shot is from Saturday the 9th.

This one is from last night, the 13th, so only a 4 day difference. But look at those numbers climb!

If anyone can explain what all those numbers mean or knows of a link that will explain it, please feel free to comment with that information.

Keep an eye out in the weeks ahead for more from @bex-dk, the Guinea Minnow! Maybe I will make a stop by one of your posts or comments! And if you decide to stop by my posts, be sure your comment actually interacts intelligently with my content. I might start flagging some of those comment spammers myself, instead of just ignoring them.

I pledge the SBD payout of this post to @rhondak for Tazewell ARC. Bailey is now safe, but Tazewell ARC needs some repairs desperately before winter (they have issues with a lack of heating) and if Bailey is heading north once he's well, he could take some friends along for the ride if there is funding for their vetting also. So my SBD income for your upvotes here will be sent over to @rhondak as soon as they come in. Please consider throwing some of her posts an upvote also if you can spare them. And if you have some real money you want to donate to an animal rescue struggling desperately to improve animal welfare and save dogs in a poverty-stricken high kill area, please keep Tazewell ARC in mind. It's a fully registered nonprofit organization, so US people can request a receipt for cash, etc., donations for their taxes. If you happen to know any businesses who might want to donate supplies or work hours to help get her heat or septic line issues fixed (the ARC is in southern Virginia--see web page for details), PLEASE contact her!

Fantastic post @bex-dk. I'm starting to think that there really is a global consciousness... I've been doing a lot of comment curation as well. On my drive to work this morning I was contemplating a post on comment curation... I s#&@t you not. I love these posts that you are doing as a collective learning process... Keep being great! Please upvote the crap out of this post as it's payout is going to Tazewell ARC.

Great post bex, very clear and informative. Curious about next week's results as well, as they will all be slider based. ;-)

Excellent post @bex-dk, and a super well illustrated example of how active curation-- and comment curation-- can really boost your results. This IS, after all, a social content site... so the more we interact, the more it helps everyone.

The 500 SP delegation from Sliderfest has really helped me, both by giving me my slider and by upping my numbers. I am trying to get results from which we can calculate whether I earn as much from the delegation as it costs in lease fees, if I hadn't won it.
