Hello everyone!

In this tutorial I show you how I made a log @slothicorn house using a plastic bottle, newspaper, paint, cigaret box, hot glue and paper clay. This is a great way to teach children about recycling and also stimulate their creativity and imagination. I know slothicorn after I read my feed, from which I started to study and find out what this slothicorn looks like. And it turns out this is a community of artists from all over the world. Nice to have a forum like this.

And these are some of the processes and materials that I use during the process. Enjoy :)

Tools & Materials:

  • Bottle plastic
  • Newspaper
  • Watercolors
  • Glue PVA
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissor
  • Knife
  • Brush
  • Tape
  • Pen

Okay, I start by drawing the sketch of the house. I visualize how will the 1/2 liters plastic bottle fit in the design and draw the shape of the fairy house around it. I also designed some stairs in front of the door.

After I have the sketch of the fairy house ready, I start cutting the plastic bottle in four pieces. Then I glue them together in place.

Next step is to build the rest of the house using newspaper, cigaret box, and hot glue. This is a fast way to achieve a basic volume that will be the base for our paper clay. Using newspaper I built the hill under the house, the tree bark, the chimney, the roof cones and a branch.

Once I have a common form of slothicorn house I can start closing everything with paper clay. Here I made my own paper clay using egg carton and PVA glue.

I started by tearing the egg carton into a small piece, then then soak it with hot water to soften, let stand for 15 minutes. If it is, take it and then squeeze until the water comes out all. Then just mix the egg carton with PVA glue and stir until it becomes smooth dough. But since I'm also the first time to make it, I can not make it smooth.

Well, after the dough so then I started to wrap the bottle with this paper clay. I work in two layers, one to cover the surface and the second for details like windows, doors, wood textures, bark, mushrooms, door stairs. However, since the paper clay dough I make is not smooth, the sku has difficulty in shaping the texture. Maybe on another occasion I'll try to make it again.

After it was all covered with paper clay, I dried it under the sun to dry and easy to color.

And this is the result after I finished coloring. I use watercolors that I meet in the warehouse, this watercolor was already there since I was 3rd grade high school and after I use, it was only a few that can still be in use, others have been hard fossilized. Hence the color of the tree house is not very good. Next I will try with the acrylic paint that I used to paint.

Then I made a small Slothicorn doll out of a carton of cigarette boxes, and put it in front of the houses.

Maybe this is all I can share with all of you, I realize the result is still not that great. But I'm glad to be able to use the waste into recycled art. I will continue to try it to produce a better work. For now, most importantly I have begun to tell my friends, family and people around to be more concerned about the environment in this way.
