I recently purchased at a charity sale this Octagon Bakelite bangle.
When acquiring this stuff one of the first things to look for is mold lines or seams, If there are any whatsoever it is not Bakelite,And so you can quickly move on without wasting time. Next thing to test is in relationship to heat. Bakelite, When rubbed with your finger till it gets warm will let off a Unique smell, like a Band-Aid or chemistry set. The chemicals that it is made from Phenol and formaldehyde among other things , and when heated has a very distinct odor. When you take it home and place it under very hot tap water you will really get a whiff.
Next just to be absolutely sure, go under the sink and get some 409. (DO NOT SPRAY the Test object)
Get a clean q-tip , put a little 409 on the end of the Q-tip, find an area on your item, in this case on the inside of the bracelet, and rub gently over a very small area if the Q-tip turns Amber yellow you have Bakelite. Make sure you rinse the piece off right away removing all traces of the 409.
Next right your description of the item take your measurements show your photographs and put it on eBay, Etsy,Pinterest, Steamit And any other Internet place where you can sell it. Set your price, enjoy.
THIS Wonderful Bakelite deco era bangle can be yours for one litecoin
