North Padre Canals

Well it's Monday and back at work on the island after the near week long deluge of rain. The mosquitoes are thick as fog, the humidity higher than high, and the heat is near unbearable. (Sigh... )island life in South Texas.

So I'm up on this balcony overlooking the canal and noticed / remembered.IMG_20180625_100452418.jpg
I built that huge monstrosity of a house across the water on the right side of the photo above.
So many homes I can't remember them all but that one took forever because of it's size at near 12,000 sq ft. The thing that stuck in my mind the most was the fact there are just two people living there. That's right. Husband and wife, kids all off to college, so just two people in a house so big you could never see the other party for days or weeks even.
Sad I thought to myself thinking back. All that room, all that emptiness just so you can tell all your friends, "oh yeah it's the biggest house on the block on the corner lot". As soon as the parties have ended they can each go to their perspective side of the house and go back to texting each other from a distance.
Anyways I wouldn't want to live there. The electric bill alone probably runs in the thousands. Living on a canal home wouldn't be so bad as the views are nice enough.

Continuing the panorama leads us to the trees.

A date palm.. And then his cousin.

So much for the lunchtime pictures. It's late, I'm tired, not much else to say other than to ponder when I might settle down and build me a home. A tiny home. One full of love not bravado and bitter cold air.

That sounds hell to me @spozone. Not my cup of tea at all!

I might settle down and build me a home. A tiny home. One full of love not bravado and bitter cold air.

Now that sounds lovely. Hope you're able to do so sooner rather than later. 😊

Yeah I might as well enter a wet tee shirt contest or at least grow gills so I can breath. It's atrocious. I heard today the heat index is going to be around 115. Lovely, just stinking lovely.

Is this normal weather for this time of year @spozone?

Yeah, pretty much, they don't call it the dog days of summer for nothing. It has been worse, but that last rain just made it soupy. We had a summer a few years back where it would come a rain for about 10 minutes at 2:00 in the afternoon then the sun would come back out and the breeze would stop. OMG you couldn't hardly breathe, like being stuck in a sweat log for 10hrs a day for weeks. The only thing to do at that point is go to the beach and stay in the water but even that was like a hot bath. It's a desert, sub-tropical wasteland. If it were not for the ocean nobody would live here.

Sounds horrible @spozone. When does it cool down?

We're having the best summer here we've had for years. Beautiful sunny days and temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Sea's still cold though. I don't imagine I'll be swimming until end of July/August. 😁

I would hope @spozone wouldn't say, "the last time it was cool outside was when the great lakes were being carved out by glaciers" XD

I don't think he would @kittysilhouette. It was defnitely cooler when he was posting earlier in the year. 😊

heheh I'd totally second that. Would rather be bundled up in the cold than melting and wading through the humidity

I like to be somewhere in the middle @kittysilhouette. I don't like the heat and I'm not keen on cold, especially it there is wind involved.

Give me an English summer day and that's perfect for me. And, this year, we're having rather a lot of those for a change. 😁

Despite the heat it really looks like a slice of paradise! That house really looks like a palace o.o! would have to really think how to make the most of it. Renting it out would be a real shame. maybe could get a permit to have underwater turbines in the canal, helical light posts to capture the breeze, solar panels charging a tesla power wall and devoting a couple of rooms for mining with that power and keep the family closer together hehehe

I still have yet to have my first place away from family. I'm eagered for it but hardly prepared for it, no matter how much I want to spread out XD
