Steemit.com & Page Rank - Reason SmartSteem is banned from Google & Facebook?

Page Rank

If you follow me I apologize for flooding your time-line. I've been thinking of a side-strategy on my Steem account.

Most people on Steem are primarily thinking about the 7 day rewards. That is interesting to me but there is also a huge side benefit.

The post continues to live on the web long after the first 7 days when it is most active on Steem. Steemit.com has become a popular website and users from search engines like Google are regularly sent here. The popularity on Google is determined by something called PageRank.

PageRank is the algorithm used by Google to determine which webpages to serve to users based on a given search. PageRank is primarily determined by the number of incoming links to a page. Also the popularity of the websites which link to said page.

This goes for links within the steemit community itself. I think upvotes, reblogs, comments, ect. all act as incoming links to a post. The more interactions a post has the more popular it will be on the search.

I'm thinking it could be interesting to build up a large PageRank score on Google before I release a short Kindle book I'm working on.

Bots and SmartSteem

Of course bid bots come into play here too. I have the theory that with PageRank many small votes are more effective than a less but equal value of large votes. This is for two reasons. Firstly each account that votes creates a series of incoming links to a post, and secondly paid votes (artificially popular content) is harder for AI to detect when it is distributed among so many small accounts.

This leads me to another strange thing I noticed. One of the best places to get these small votes is through SmartSteem. I noticed the SmartSteem website is banned on both Facebook and Google.

Check for yourself, try searching SmartSteem on Google ... doesn't come up at all.

Then try to send a message on Facebook Messanger including a link to the SmartSteem website, even to yourself. You'll get this error message.

Reasons it might not be the case

Of course this is just me speculating. If that was the Reason SmartSteem is banned it would be strange for several reasons:

  • MinnowBooster does the same thing and is older, yet it isn't banned
  • SmartSteem probably isn't old or big enough to be noticed by Google(?)
  • Banning SmartSteem from search and facebook don't actually fix the pagerank manipulation

So I'm really not sure why SmartSteem is banned. If it was just one of these two sites I could understand maybe it just got caught up in the anti-crypto craze, but both Google and Facebook? There must be a connection of some sort?

An alternative theory might be that they're banned because they directly say "Buy" on the front page. I know Facebook really doesn't like anything crypto that is selling, but honestly even that seems kind of far fetched.

What do you think? Is there another reason they could be banned that I haven't thought of?

The page rank stuff is very interesting & i like that u pointed out it would be directly proportional to number of votes (i.e. traffic) rather than vote value.

Why would smartsteem specifically be banned? Great question. I don't use it but theres been times in the past that myself and others couldn't post regular steemit links in fb
Mine was stated to be spam at the time by fb...

That would suck. Weird that they blocked it and then unblocked it.

Yeah it was weird but it's happened to others as well

I hate Facebook, they censor everything I like to know about and force feed bullshit into my newsfeed. I posted about Steemit today and almost no one saw the post of course... So hard to even tell people on there who follow me about Steemit, I get banned if I send too many PM's too

Too many PMs never heard of that one before.

What is the book you are busy writing about? If you need help editing then let me know. I did a short book on Elasticsearch for O'Reilly but we ended up just open sourcing it because a new version of the software came out once I was ready to publish.

I'll let you know. I have an idea to write a book where each chapter is a different spooky aspect or conspiracy theory involving bitcoin. Like crypto spooky pastas.

I always get distracted so I'm thinking each chapter will be it's own thing. Maybe one assassinations on the dark-web, another on a scary hacking story, and maybe some others on Bitcoin conspiracy theories.

Interesting. I have cool story to add, will tell you about it on discord.
