Most memorable for the fact that she was the original (and best) female Smurf, ‘Smurfette’, is the impish wavy blonde haired cutey, who has stolen the heart of virtually every ‘boy’ Smurf in Smurf village, at some point or another during the comic/shows lifetime. And Smuefette also made quite an impression with the cartoons viewers, who frequently vote the little blue minx highly, on any chart compiled listing the ‘sexiest' cartoon characters of all time.
Dressed in the traditional white hat, a white summer dress, and white high-heels, Smurfette, first appeared in Smurf world in 1966, shattering the belief of many that Smurfs were a species consisting only of males. However, it wasn’t until the 1980s animated cartoon series that Smurfette rose to become a permanent character, having only made several small appearances in the comic strip up until that point.
Magically brought to life from clay by the Smurfs evil nemesis ‘Gargamel’, Smurfette was intended to disrupt peace and harmony at Smurf village, by forcing the smurfs to fight each other for Smurfette’s affections.
Which is ultimately what happened, with Smurfette’s arrival and subsequent antics causing jealousy and chaos amongst the previously peaceful community of Smurfs, with even the usually cantankerous ‘Grouchy Smurf’ harboring a secret crush on Smurfette, as the little blue fellas fought each other tooth and nail to win Smurfette’s heart. However after Smurfette later ran away to live in the forest, upset at causing trouble amongst the Smurfs, the lads each learnt to hide their obsession, and to worship her from a distance, which led to Smurfette returning to live amongst them at Smurf Village.
