Province: Lugo
Situation: Concello de Outeiro de Rei
To reach this enigmatic megalithic vestige is not easy, but to go in search of it, it's worth it. In case it could serve future seekers of the unusual and the mystery, I will tell you that the best way to get to the Penas de Rodas, is from Rábade, taking the direction of Santiago de Gaioso, where there are signs.
Before entering the town, it is worth stopping a few minutes on the bridge and see the fabulous environment formed by the river Ladra, for, once rushed so enveloping biospheric appetizer, let the spirit advance prepared to face the unusual magic that makes up the vision of such an enigmatic place.
Passed the town, and following the indications, the way bifurcates in two, forming a fork in whose center, as if of an imaginary pata de oca it were, it is seen this imposing immemorial wonder.
A marvel that surprises by its fascinating spell. A spell that makes you, pulling the imagination, one can see that you are contemplating two colossal megalithic sphinxes, which direct your gaze towards the West, perhaps pointing out that path that the ancient peoples used to approach Fisterra, where the sea it swallowed the sun at sunset and where they were convinced that the souls of their ancestors resided.
Much has been written about this place, and there are opinions for all tastes. Some people claim to see in them -as in Stonehenge- an astronomical observatory. In fact, and as commented in numerous writings circulating on the Internet, it must be a spectacle to see the sun rise, illuminating with its rays the space left between the two stones, especially if this show is displayed on nights like that of San Juan, where I know -judging by the modern habilitation of the place, which has a certain charm- that the neighbors of the surroundings gather to celebrate the most magical night of the year: the one that opens the door of Jano to the solstice of summer and frees from its spell a whole range of fantastic beings, which make up a rich and varied mythology, based, mainly, on beliefs of pre-eminently Celtic origin, still deeply rooted in the depths of the psyche of the Galician people.
The tall grass, the thick forest that surrounds the meadow on which they settle in mephistopheleic balance these imposing rocks, the gentle breeze sneaking between the branches, resembling sighs of morganas fatas are probably the best liberator of sensations and experiences that each You must experiment for yourself.
A strange place, a relic of a world irretrievably lost in the muds of History, where magic was part of the everyday and where the Spirit went into a trance -who knows if it is the sound of drums and bagpipes- visiting inner universes, they would not be other than those so special where the great myths live and forge.
In short, and as the French philosopher Paul Elouard would say: there are other worlds, but they are in this one.
