Snake Pass: a very criative collect-a-ton

Today I am going to talk a little about this game. I know that you are thinking: "is this a modern version of that game snake II that came with old nokia phones?" And the answer is No!

Snake pass is a game that I bought a few months after getting my Switch. I bought it after watch a video on youtube listing a top switch games in that time. In this video I saw lots of mechanics very unique and it look like very fun.

After downloading the game, the first thing that I notice is that the game has long loading time. One of the most important features that I love in the switch is the fast startup and short loading times (for most games at the time). The game had lots of performance issues. Most of them have been fixed in patch now.

In esthetics the game is very charming. I liked the visual for the main character, the snake called noodle. The levels are beautiful in the first time you see it. But as far as I played it (about 10 levels), all levels look to similar, making it boring after some time. The developers could choose some design solutions to make levels unique, but they chosed only to change the base color. The music for the levels is relaxing, what is a good thing when you got stress after falling from a 5 minute climbing. There problem in this point is the same of the level: too much repetitive and got boring after a time.

What make this game unique is the gameplay. You control a snake, and like any other snake you can't jump, or grab thing, or run. In this game you move yourself like a snake, crawling around and twisting on things. It take a little long to get used to the controls, but is very rewarding when you get the blue orb on the cliff and get back. The problem with the gameplay is that beacuse of this odd control and limitations of been a snake, this game has a slow pace. Another point that make the game feels slow is that there are too much collectables. In each level there are: 20 blue orbs, 5 golden coins and 3 relics (the main collectable, the ones needed to clear the level). Comparing to other games it may see not too much, but with the limited moves of the snake, each level take more than 10 minutes.

I liked the criativity and the design for this game. But it does not make me want play it until finish it, even without getting every collectiable. It is not a bad game, but I think it is not a game for me. Sometimes it seems to be very fun, other times it look like a tech demo.

For all this, my final grade for this game is 6.8/10
