The Green Mamba (Dendroaspis angusticeps)
One of South Africa's Deadly Dozen.
This is a most beautiful snake with a calm disposition.
In South Africa it is only found along the Natal Coast - No where inland.
It lives in trees.
It is the only South African Deadly Dozen Snake that I have caught in the wild that shows no threat display. The ones found further north in Africa behave more like the Black Mamba by spreading a narrow hood and opening their mouths - but I have yet to see this threatening behavior in a South African one.
This photo shows clearly the Fixed Front Fangs of the Green Mamba (A pity it is out of focus)
