Departing Social Media

in socialmedia •  8 years ago

According to a fairly recent video by James Corbett (The Corbett Report) users are leaving conventional social media in droves. Sites such as Fakebook and Twitter, along with YouTube are seeing a steep decline in usership, with people opting for alternative sites like Minds.com, Steemit, Gab.ai, et'al. One interesting site designed to compete with YouTube isBit Chute that is still being developed, but is up and running. If Mr. Corbett has already posted this, I apologize, I looked but didn't see it here.

They say that f-c-book and ThouTube got so big because they were the winners in the war to dominate their niche. However, if you had any inside knowledge of their opposition and how funding came and went, you would have a different notion.

Also, if you knew advertising was about selling a narrative, and had nothing to do with product placement, or sales, then you would see a different perspective to why f-c-book and Boogle exist.

As Corbett said, in his latest piece, if you actually try to create a ThouTube like service to host your videos, you will find yourself drowned in costs, that no amount of advertising dollars would cover. And I have seen people try. I do not believe Boogle's published numbers on costs.

So, given the Federal Bureau of Intimidation's MO and backing of Boogle and F-c-book, and understanding that the elite will spend any amount of money to maintain control, then the conclusion is that these entities are not here to make a profit, and are only out to shape your mind and control the flow of information. (also look at what they soft-censor)

Good point, I watched an interesting video about how the flow of information is controlled, even through Wikileaks. If you see something on the internet, it's because "they" want you to see it. And believe me, for everything you see, there's something far worse going on behind it that you can't see.

But there are a number of alternatives to Google and YouTube out there and many have been there for a long time even though they are not as popular.

Those sites should be more popular.

Things are getting worser than they used before. Youtube is about to add option of promoting comment's with real money and making Community Guidelines more restrictive , Facebook blocks politicians and activists and so on.
If you are looking for alternatives these are best:
youtube - BitChute
facebook - Diaspora
(both of them are fully safe and does not sells your privacy out)

I'm trying to get off of here so I can check out Bit Chute. I've checked Vid.me which seems ok but still in it's infancy so it doesn't have the range of stuff available (for now) on Y-Tube. I'll look into Diaspora, thanks. I'm looking for an alternative to Facebook. I have a lot of friends there that aren't into any "objectionable" stuff, pics of kids & grand kids, dogs and things like that. They'll never leave.

That's really the biggest appeal of facebook. It enables you to easily share pics of the kids or whatever with many people you know all in one spot. A true replacement not only has to enable you to do that, but somehow convince everyone to start using that replacement. No matter how good it is, a replacement is useless if the people you are interested in sharing with aren't there.

You got that right...I've been trying to get friends from FB over here and nobody will budge!

To be fair, steemit isn't really useful for sharing pictures and those sorts of things with your friends (I mean you can't even upload pictures directly). It just isn't that kind of social media site. Something like Diaspora would be better but it isn't quite as user friendly or as full featured...and then there is the already mentioned problem of getting everyone to move there.

I looked at Diaspora...it looked like they want you to pay for it. I'm on Gab.ai, but they have the same problem with pictures, you have to upload from a secondary site. There's also the character restriction (200 I think)

Diaspora is free (go to diasp.org if that wasn't where you tried). They do donation drives from time to time but it is not required that you donate and there are no "premium" features or anything like that. I haven't tried Gab.ai yet...

Great post, Rich.

I'm sure that the big SM sites are losing users due to the censorship issue. No ungoodspeak for YOU!

What about LiveLeak as a youtube alt?

I haven't seen it...I'll check it out. I went to Bit Chute and was pleasantly impressed so I signed up. Maybe I'll check some more and do a post about what I find.

I might want to look over there (BitChute) myself

I was impressed. I'm going to do a short article and post some links

Yup, include me in the list :)

I don't like Fauxbook anyway because anything you post on their is likely being handed over to a "third party" likely the CIA, NSA, or GASP!!! The FBI.

I know...that's why all I put there are pics of my dog & grandkids and sometimes a funny meme or cartoon
