If I had to pick just one social media channel to use to grow my business, it would undoubtedly be Twitter. The stories and encounters that have occurred to me on Twitter over the years have been wonderful. The number of people I was able to contact was incredible, and Twitter's assistance in my marketing efforts was second to none.
While Twitter receives a lot of attention, I believe it is underappreciated as a business tool. Many business owners aren't taking advantage of the site to its full potential.
Here are five strategies to get the most out of Twitter that is sometimes ignored.
01 - It can be used as a search engine.
You undoubtedly think of Google, Bing, and perhaps Yahoo when you think of search engines. If Twitter isn't on that list, you're mistaken, and you're throwing money away.
Google requires time to index a website once it is published before it appears in search results. You can obtain a real-time feed regarding the word or phrase you just searched with Twitter's search feature.
There are a plethora of ways to make use of this to your advantage. Look up your company's name on the internet to discover what people are saying about it. Look up the reasons why people like or dislike your competitor. If you look up a certain industry problem, you'll find a long list of people looking for a solution. Then you can utilize that list to sell your product and let those folks know about it.
Many people think of Twitter as a tool for broadcasting, but it's actually the best listening platform the world has ever seen.
02 - Relationships should be nurtured.
There's something about Twitter's ethos that enables and even encourages outreach to folks you can't reach on other social media platforms like LinkedIn.
You can always find a leader in your field, a potential partner, or your favorite celebrity on Twitter and start a connection with them, or at the very least get on their radar, by tweeting and replying to them.
03 - Before pitching an investor, do some research on them.
Choosing investors is one of the most difficult tasks that entrepreneurs face. Many people are aware that due diligence is an important element of the investment process. Before investing in a firm, investors have access to a wealth of information. But, before receiving an investor's money, where can a founder learn more about them?
Of course, they can talk to founders who have already received funds from that investor, but those founders are unlikely to be neutral. He did, after all, take that person's money.
You can follow an investor on Twitter and get to know them as a person. What are their interests? What piques their interest? What are their priorities and values? Use Twitter to listen, learn, and get to know the individual with whom you're going to develop a long-term professional connection.
04 - Learn as much as you can about journalists.
Public relations (PR) is an important aspect of your marketing plan, but before you pitch a journalist, you need to understand what they want.
Do you want to pitch that writer with a formal press release or an informal email, for example? Is it okay for them to be pitched on social media? What types of stories pique their interest? Is it tough to pitch them, or are they open and ready for stories? Before pitching them on your company's news, follow key journalists on Twitter and get to know them.
05 - Allow your personality to shine through.
This, in my opinion, is where Twitter really shines. If you're an introvert, you could have social anxiety when you're in a large group. There is no better town square or water cooler than Twitter.
On Twitter, you may freely express your thoughts on a variety of issues while remaining true to yourself. While this may also apply to other social media platforms, there's something about Twitter's character constraint that makes it so simple to express yourself. The character limit, paired with Twitter etiquette, makes it much easier to be yourself on the platform.
You can and should use this to let potential collaborators know who you are and who they will be working with. There's no reason not to let your true spirit shine through, providing past, present, and future generations a window into who you are as a person and a leader.
Twitter should undoubtedly play a significant role in your marketing strategy.
