Yesterday was the birthday of Robert D. Putnam. That name might not be familiar to you at first glance, but Putnam is an American political scientist who has theorized that the US has experienced a collapse in social and political life. He published a book called Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community about this theory.
