Any crypto-social network should be based on the possibility of free communication and the absence of centralized corporate oversight. Decentralized social networks remove barriers to censorship. After all, the absence of a central point of control leads to the fact that there are no intermediaries, and no third parties will be able to control user data.
If no one controls the network servers, then no person or organization can control and censor the content. And this allows you to fight censorship, but it also presents a unique problem: moderation. The idea of moderation puts crypto-social communities in a difficult position. On the one hand, the values of crypto-social Web 3.0 are to create democratic applications, free from censorship and intrusive surveillance. On the other hand, communities should be able to protect themselves from spam, hackers, and inappropriate content (inciting extremism, promoting violence, drugs, suicide, and more). The balance between moderation and the need for privacy, decentralization and anti-censorship is a complex issue that has no clear answer.
So how is the social network Solcial going to solve the issues of moderation.
At the core, of course, is the very idea of decentralization - the community itself will control the content that is present on the network. How to do it?
One way to prevent the distribution of any inappropriate content is for the community to implement features to grant members access to post, view and/or admin rights online. And the users themselves choose which content is inadmissible, send a complaint, the function of which is written in the platform interface itself. When the number of such complaints exceeds a certain limit, this content is hidden from the interface and detached from IPFS nodes (torrent tracker or storage).
What else in conclusion I would like to say on my own behalf.
The classification of “good” and “bad” content for different communities can be completely different, up to diametrically opposed points of view. And it's how good information is shared and bad information curated that ultimately determines the value of the community itself, so it's important to approach moderation in a way that can't be intercepted or manipulated. As decentralized social networks gain more and more interest and development, there is much more at stake now than just the idea of decentralization. We ordinary users need more purpose-driven platforms that stand for intellectual and financial sovereignty, not fancy words.
So, I hope that for fans of social networks, adherents of crypto, bloggers, developers, journalists and entrepreneurs focused on a new generation of social networks with unique opportunities, an amazing and promising time is coming and everyone will appreciate Solcial and everyone will find their own niche for their possibilities.
