LONGi (Headquartered in Xi'an, China) announced the launch of "Hi-MO 7" (Hi-MO Seven), a new product for ground-mounted large-scale solar power plants that employs the cell's new HPDC technology, to the global market at SNEC (16th (2023) International Photovoltaic and Smart Energy (Shanghai) Convention and Exhibition), the largest solar power exhibition in the world, held in Shanghai, China, from May 24 to 26, 2012.
HPDC is a new technology developed by LONGi, which is an evolution from N-type TOPCon technology. Hi-MO 7 with HPDC is a double-sided power generation module with standardized module size of M10 (182mm) wafer, achieving 580W output and 22.5% module conversion efficiency. The new product will be sold in the second half of 2023. The new product will be launched in the second half of 2023, and the production capacity is expected to reach 30 GW/year by the end of 2023.
With this, LONGi has formed a complete product lineup with Hi-MO 5 + Hi-MO 7 focusing on the ground-mounted large-scale solar power plant (utility) market and Hi-MO 6 focusing on the residential and industrial solar power generation system (distributed generation) market, including roof-mounted installations. Hi-MO 6 is a product lineup that focuses on the residential and industrial PV market. We are committed to providing the best value experience for solar power owners of various forms and applications around the world to benefit efficiently and consistently throughout the life cycle of their power plants.
At the launch, Li Xiaotong, Director of Product Marketing at LONGi, detailed the core advantages of the Hi-MO 7 with HPDC and emphasized the long time spent evaluating, developing, and testing the product. In addition to high efficiency, he also demonstrated how the world's highest product quality and long-term reliability can significantly reduce LCOE in a large-scale solar power project in the Gobi Desert as a case study by improving the amount of electricity generated over the entire life cycle of the product.
HPDC stands for High Performance and Hybrid Passivated Dual-Junction Cell, a further improvement on HPC technology that uses different passivation techniques on the front and back sides. On the back side of the cell, a two-layer junction with optimized concentration distribution, optimized film design, and advanced deposition techniques are used to achieve full passivation with minimal absorbed light loss. On the front side, a low-resistance local contact layer is employed to improve cell conversion efficiency. In addition, up-bladed anti-reflective and low recombination films and improved metal electrode formation are implemented on both the front and back sides to achieve superior performance. These improved HPDC cells not only improve conversion efficiency, but also reliability, output temperature coefficient, low-illumination characteristics, and IAM (incident angle modification factor) performance, resulting in increased lifetime electricity production.
LONGi's prototype product based on HPDC technology was awarded "All Quality Matters 2022" in the PV Module Energy Yield Simulation, a power generation evaluation by TÜV Rheinland. In addition, Hi-MO 7 modules generated 2.9% more power than other leading double-sided PV modules in a power generation demonstration project (installed on highly reflective cement ground) in Qionghai, Hainan Province, conducted by the China Electric Appliance Research Institute Co. Thus, it has proven to be a more valuable module for customers in the ground-mounted large-scale solar power plant market.
The reliability of Hi-MO 7 is backed by LONGi's industry-leading product life cycle standards. Furthermore, Hi-MO 7 benefits from an optimized design that includes high-quality monocrystalline silicon wafers, customized cell paste, an optimized module encapsulation film system, SMBB (Super Multi Bus Bar) precision interconnections, and highly reliable automatic welding of junction boxes, reliability throughout the life cycle. In addition, the product quality of Hi-MO 7 is ensured by the digitalized production and quality control platform, in particular by the intelligent AI detection technology. All this enables Hi-MO 7 to offer a linear output guarantee of less than 0.8% in the first year and less than 0.38%/year in the second and subsequent years, providing customers with solid value and efficient returns that exceed expectations.
