Jamendo + Steemit would be a glorious combination

Have you heard of Jamendo? It’s a musical promotion platform with some very unknown and underground artists. It’s pretty much like Soundcloud but puts a higher emphasis on the licenses used and offering music that can be used in videos and the such.

“In the rise of more permissive models and movements such as Open Source and the FreeCulture Movement, new ideas on how to digitally share creative works came to life. Creative Commons brought an alternative to the automatic “all-rights reserved” copyright, eventually leading a small group of people in Luxembourg to found in 2004 the pioneering website Jamendo.com, the first platform to legally share music for free from any creator under Creative Commons licenses”. I was going to write an entirely different post but before I sat in front of the computer I smoked some Ganja and searched up Jamendo to listen to some music. It has been a funny experience because I usually don’t listen to the trending songs since they are tend to be pop music, however today I made an exception.

I’m not a pop music hater, every now and then there is a song that I might like, but it’s not something I frequently look for. I thought: “how about you just click on play and keep an open mind, whatever it is that comes seek to enjoy it”.

So I clicked play on the first song titled “My Forgiveness” by Goom and I was blown away!! At the first few seconds I thought “well, it’s pop… not surprising but let’s keep the open mind”. However, as the song evolved, I found myself saying “this shit is awesomeeee and I’m so fucking hiiiiigh”.

“On Jamendo Music, you can enjoy a wide catalog of more than 500,000 tracks shared by 40,000 artists from over 150 countries all over the world. You can stream all the music for free, download it and support the artist: become a music explorer and be a part of a great discovery experience!”Source

What a great tune, starting from a slow acoustic guitar arpeggios and singing and evolving into a very progressive Toolish kind of song. Well that’s what I perceived anyway… I’m listening to it over and over and it just seems to be a different song each time.

I listened to the other trending songs and they were ok, there were only two pop songs of a total of five so it wasn’t overloaded in that sense. I particularly liked a rap song from Double Lyrical called “Icing on the Cake”. I’m not sure what the lyrics were about, but it motivated me to dance and it was a good dance.

Anyway, what I find really fun about Jamendo is that you never know what you’re gonna get! If you find yourself receptive enough, you can have a real good time with the large variety of music found there.

It would be really interesting to see Steemit have a platform like this to listen to all the cool musicians of the @sonicgroove tribe and other musical communities I might not heard of. Personally I would curate a lot on Sonic Groove but I find most people post their music as videos and I have internet limited to a few Gigabytes of data, so I can’t really watch them.

It would also be very nice to be able to search quickly for Steemit musicians and listen to their music without having to enter into a post.

Could it be possible to incorporate Jamendo into the Blockchain? Maybe that could be a win-win for both platforms, as Jamendo artists would be able to make some extra profit with their music as well as adding valuable content to Steemit. Also, I think these projects have the common ground of helping undervalued content gain exposure and value.

“We also believe that any artist should benefit from sharing their music. That’s why we help artists make money by licensing their songs for commercial use. Thanks to Jamendo Licensing, we answer the needs of anyone searching for any style of music to be used immediately in a film, a TV program, a commercial, an online video or as background music for commercial space; all at a fair price. With such use of their songs, artists find new sources of revenue while getting wider exposure”. Source

Another reason to consider this is that both Steemit and Jamendo are doing a good job but not getting enough attention from the social media work, so that would help them get a larger user base. I had one app which acted as an alternative client for Jamendo. I had to shutdown it because the changed their third-party developers agreement so nobody except them should provide an alternative client.

They are centralizing and that's the opposite of the Steem way of providing apps.

Wow, didn't know that. There used to be lots of apps for Jamendo. Thanks for the useful info, sending you an SBI share right now ;)

Thanks!
