Being away from home... i tend to be missing out on a lot. Two weeks ago my older sister got married. Unfortunatley i could not be there, so i decided to write her an open letter.
"A sister is not like the average best friend. You fight a little more, but with this you love a little more too."
Hey sis...
This is sooo hard...it kills me to be over a thousand miles away on this Big day where I should be standing by your side...! We have been through sooo much together... we've laughed, cried, fought even pull each other's hair ... we had our ups and we definitely had our downs... So, I thought with not being here today... I'd send you this little something special...to leave my mark and to show my love and support on this big and special day! I wish that I could've been there... to see you transitioning into the next big chapter of your life. I am so excited to become a part of a bigger family... whom I can't wait to meet!
I always knew this day would come, the day when you proclaim your love to Brendan. I can't wait to see what the future holds for all of us, but I could not be more excited to see my Big sister find someone who is good to her and who will continue to treat her well for years to come.
Before you embark on this new and exciting journey with the love of your life, there are some things I want you to remember as you start your new and exciting lives together.
You'll both have to make sacrifices. Remember...one hand washes the other... something true, that I use too this day...(thanks daddy) But you will both love it either way because it's worth it in the end. For better or for worse, sickness and in health entail a vast range of things. Your sickness may be a Movie addiction, while his worse may be leaving the seat up... never-the-less you're both human and are bound to push each others buttons at times. I just ask you remind yourself that we get more easily aggravated at our loved ones than others. As your sister I can vouch for the validity of this statement.
Lastly, I just want you to know that I am always here for you in sickness and in health, for better or for worse... even As a sister I have always been there (maybe not always physically...mostly mentally) and this could never change. In this new path leading to the rest of your life I will walk hand in hand with you, as your sister everyday after. I love you and could not be happier for you. Can't wait to see what your forever has to hold.
Sincerely,
Your Sister
Dominique/Nikki
p.s. Brendan...
I wanted to take this time to thank you... for not only swooping my sister of her feet, but for stealing her heart. You are her diamond in the rough...her prince charming. Please take care of her!!! See you soon Brother :)
