Astrophysics is giving us a lot to think about today. Recently ( about two months ago) astronomers at Las Cumbres Observatory in Santa Barbara were on of six teams to co-discover a new source of light and localize it to the galaxy NGC 4993, only about 130 million light years away. The scientists detected an outburst, that occurs right after two neutron stars merge, called a kilonova, a phenomenon that had long been considered possible, but never observed — until now.
