So the other day I flagged someone who was comment spamming in several people's posts, and I muted one who was posting that "glitch" phishing scam. I didn't see where to flag a post, but now I see it at the top (hi, I'm new here), or I would have flagged it. I presume someone reads Russian to know tjhat the Ruasian language ones linked above are spam? Should we jot down the name of a phisher/scammer and alert you guys as well so everyone joins in? Thanks!

You can report abuse to @steemcleaners. Phishing attempts need to be reported in #steemitabuse. Other types of abuse can be reported using our form.

Guests are selected by me. They are usually bots with a voting trail or are heavily abusing boosters and trying to hide it. I'm still thinking about these. I need to start a list of them and see how prevalent they are. I'd also like to find time to comment on their posts that they could be earning more with posts that engage the community and gain support from groups like @minnowsupport.

it actually raised a nice discussion...

I'm a curator for MSP-venezuela and it helps a little but it is a hard educational work, I've received a few complains in private chats the thing with dealing with humans is that it is time consuming :)

I think the messages that we receive in our wallets asking us to send 1 or more SBD's to resteem a post are spam and they should be hit with an abundance of downvotes as well.

So... instead of rewarding the bot spammers, we collectively gather the money they should receive and pay it to services like this one.
In a sense, the outcome is still 0 for the average user.
Pay the spam, or pay the anti-spam...
Either way, all this garbage is destroying what should actually be receiving rewards... good content.
Looks like a loosing situation all around.

Instead of a blogging site, its become a place where spam and anti-spam are in constant battle and being rewarded...
And um... that is attractive how?

A $50 payout for anti-spam?
Comon... what a bullshit way to money grab.
This isnt quality content... it makes steemit look uterly pathetic.

I dont downvote, but im sick of seeing this shit receive attention and rewards. Its completely spammy in itself when i see these postings all day long receiving high payouts.

I have 3081 accounts to look at today to weed out innocent up-voters in a spam ring. Three new different sets of accounts abusing minnow support programs to investigate and figure out how many accounts each has involved. I'm monitoring and flagging phishing posts and every few hours. 30 @mentions on steemit.chat I have yet to look into and a few more on discord. I've been here for 4 hours already today dealing with abuse.

Do you want to do it? Would you spend that much time doing it for free?

Tracking these guys down took maybe 30 minutes. I spend hours at this and post about it very little to either account. How about everyone who doesn't have the time to do this for free stops? :shrug: There are groups that have taken 20,000 - 50,000 STEEM from the reward pool before they were caught cashed out and ran with it. @dart made over $20k in STEEM in a short period of time before I noticed them.

This is the first post I've made in 29 days under @spaminator. The SP awarded by this post gives the account weight to flag spammers and up-vote those who use their VP to fight spam. The SBD will stay in the account until I need to rent SP again, we run a contest, or the group decides to convert it or pay it out.

I could have just fed these accounts to @sadkitten like I will the current list I'm working on after I weed out the innocents. :shrug: The community needs to know that we are still here and active. It was also a way to get the opinion of the community and those that support us about flagging posts since it strays further into content moderation than I'd like. There may also come a day when we have to rely on the VP of this account to flag abuse.

Oh no, such a money grab...

I understand that you feel like this is a weird thing and unusual, but it is part of the self healing mechanism of steem. There are no Facebook mods banning spam. The users have to work together to make sure that spammers get no rewards.

Well today I put roughly 50 dollars back in the pool. It costs me that much in vote. And I loose the curation and the people I support loose in vote weight. What did I earn? 0⃣

What if someone upvotes your comment? Can I then say 'complain about a post and get 50 dollars? What a money grab'? I probably won't...

It would be a good idea for you to write a post about the topic of spam in steem. Give some suggestions on how to improve. Get a discussion going. Link me the post so I can participate.

If you have no solution, please don't blame the current one. That would be disrespectful to all the volunteers who give their free time and money to combat evitdooers. 🐐

Speculation about a 'what if' is a bad way to get your point across. Obviously that didn't/won't happen and neither was I expecting that outcome.
Here's a solution that most likely won't be implemented; get rid of the bots...
Introduce forced log out on idle and utilize keycaptcha upon log in.
But the truth is... people actually like bots because many are just up vote bots.
So the problem is actually much deeper than just spam. If you want to get rid of it, a solution needs to be put in place to attack it at the source.
This downvoting spam, rewarding anti-spam approach is just a surface patch without a lasting fix.
Is the goal to literally have half of Steemit flagging spam that the other half creates???
Yeah... that's great reason to invest into Steemit.

Fun fact: You can't add a captcha on a blockchain, that is not how this works.

No. It does use your voting power, but if we all chip in, the voting power usage will be minimal. i see this work as part of being a team, kind of like taking the garbage out in a household.

I have found with several that publish in comments, always with a generic phrase, that many times nothing has to do with the post for which they commented, and they sign requesting that they follow them. I do not know if that's what SPAM is considering ...
