Yes

Why? Won't that damage its economy?

No, it is not a legal action.
Because 2.200.000 ilegal votes can not decided over 5.000.000 more catalan people and 40.000.000 more spanish people. This is Spain and European democracy..

The votes were ilegal indeed with people voting two, three or even four times...I'm not catalan, but I defend they have the right to decide their future...not with a bad joke like the 1-O but a real referendum like in Scotland or quebec...

Yes, in a legal referendum without fear to vote "No"

Definitely!

I hope so. I truly think that the Spanish government has reacted way too harshly. Such brutality was uncalled for and may cost them dearly, perhaps damage their relationship with the EU members and even cost them their membership.

I am from Holland and we had to fight an 80 year war to gain our independence from Spain. In the year 1648 we finally won and gained our independence and we came out stronger than ever. The Spanish don't seem to learn from the past. If the Catalan people really want to be independent you cannot stop that with violence. The result will be a long war and the Spanish will finally loose. Start a proper dialogue!
