El morrocoy en cautiverio es un experto en reproducirse y depositar uevos por todo el solar en dónde se encuentre. Estos animales patas roja ponen de 2 a 15 huevos los cuales entierran. Estos animales viven apareandose y con frecuencia ponen huevos que tiene un líquido amniótico para proteger la membrana y el feto.
El morrocoy pertenece al grupo de los testudinidae y estos animalitos se alimentan con frutas, hierbas como la verdolaga y verduras.
En la semana santa, años anteriores, no faltaba en la mesa de un hogar un pastel de morrocoy.
