Hoy quiero compartir unas fotos que saqué en un mercado de comida en Little india, Singapur. Yo recién llegaba a Asia desde Nueva Zelanda y llegar a Singapur fue un shock cultural tremendo. El clima muy cálido y húmedo, la comida, los olores, todo era nuevo para mi y yo me sentía como un niño viendo todo por primera vez. En el barrio Little India quedé fascinado con la comida, muchas especias, exquisitas salsas y panes, los hornos tandoori, el Roti Canai. En estos paises del sudesde asiático todo pasa en la calle, hay infinitos puestos de comida callejeros, tienditas que venden ropa, artesanías, todo lo encuentras en la calle.

Y los mercados son increíbles, en los Night Markets (mercados nocturnos) suelen vender las cosas típicas de la zona, vestimenta, adornos, telas, y siempre mucha comida.
Espero que mediante las fotos puedan sentir la sensación de estar ahí, caminando por los interminables pasillos entre la gente.

Me acuerdo que como Singapur es un país bastante caro, y yo viajaba en plan económico, me quedé en un hostel en un dormitorio compartido. Y cuando digo compartido... me refiero a que tenía 20 camas! Los olores que habían en ese dormitorio no me los voy a olvidar mas. A la noche se escuchaba una sinfonía de ronquidos, la verdad que fue una experiencia única. Nunca mas volví a compartir dormitorio con tanta gente, por suerte. Pero bueno... no me arrepiento, son recuerdos lindos que quedan para siempre. Ademas siempre lo digo: yo viajo de manera económica para así poder viajar por mas tiempo.

Algo que me gustó mucho de Singapur es la mezcla cultural que tiene. Es un híbrido de las culturas china, británica, malaya e india. Todas se fusionas creando un mix cultural muy interesante, y lo admirable es que todos conviven en armonía y paz. Debo reconocer que los países con mezclas culturales como ésta me atraen mucho (Malasia es muy parecido en este aspecto) .

Estas fotos me recuerdan al olor que había en ese mercado, la partes de pescados ni les cuento jaja. Al estar viajando, recorrer los mercados locales es un paseo obligado de cada lugar. Todos ofrecen distintas cosas y cada uno tiene su encanto particular. Las artesanías siempre se encuentran ahí, pudiendo comprarlas directamente al productor.

Today I want to share some pictures I took at aFfood Market in Little india, Singapore. I had just arrived in Asia from New Zealand and landing in Singapore was a massive cultural shock. The very hot and humid weather, the food, the smells, everything was new to me and I felt like a child seeing everything for the first time. In the Little India neighborhood I was fascinated with their food, the spices, delicious sauces and breads, the tandoori ovens, the Roti Canai, and so on. In these Asian countries, everything happens on the street, there are infinite street food stalls, small stores selling clothes, handicrafts, everything you find on the street.

And the markets are incredible, in Night Markets they usually sell the typical things of the area, clothing, ornaments, fabrics, and always a lot of food.
I hope that through the photos you can feel like being there, walking through the endless corridors packed with people.

I remember that since Singapore is a very expensive country, and I was traveling cheaply, I stayed in a hostel in a shared dorm. And when I say shared ... I mean it had 20 beds! The smells from were bedroom I will never forget. At night a symphony of snoring was heard, the truth was that it was quite a unique experience. I never had to share a bedroom with so many people luckily. But well ... I do not regret it, those are beautiful memories that remain forever. Also I always say: I travel economically so I can travel for longer.

Something that I really liked about Singapore is the cultural mix that it has. It is a hybrid of Chinese, British, Malay and Indian cultures. All are fused creating a very interesting cultural mix, and the admirable thing is that they all live in harmony and peace. I must admit that countries with cultural mixes like this attract me a lot (Malaysia is very similar in this regard).

These photos remind me of the smells that there was in that market, the fish and seafood area was a bit sickening to say the least. When traveling, touring local markets is a must for every place I visit. All offer different things and each has its own particular charm. The crafts are always there, being able to buy them directly from the producer.
