We use possessive adjectives all of the time in English.
example: MY car is red. YOUR keys are loud. HIS chair is comfy. HER shoes are pink. OUR sister is crazy. THEIR mom is nice. YOUR school is nice.
In Spanish, possessive adjectives agree in number with the nouns they describe. Nuestro(a) and vuestro(a) must also agree in gender of the nouns they describe.
Singular Possessive Adjectives:
mi = my
tu=your
su=could refer to 'his', 'her', or 'your' (formal)
nuestro(a) = our
vuestro(a) = yours (more than one person + in Spain)
su = your (more than one person)
Examples: Mi coche es rojo = My car is red.
Tu madre es muy amable = Your mother is very nice.
Nuestra casa es verde = Our house is green.
Su padre es alto (referring to the children's father) = Their father is tall.
Plural Possessive Adjectives:
mis = my
tus = your
sus = his/her/your (formal)
nuestros(as) = our
vuestros(as) = your (plural and in Spain)
sus = your or their (plural)
examples:
Mis tíos son colombianos = My uncles are Colombian.
Tus gatos son bobos = Your cats are silly.
Sus hijos tienen muchos videojuegos. = His/Her/Your (formal) children have a lot of videogames.
Nuestros abuelos son viejos = Our grandparents are old.
Vuestras habitaciones están en este edificio = Your bedrooms are in this building.
Sus mascotas son lindos = Your pets are cute.
