While entering the irrigation supply store in El Cajon, Ca, I noticed a hedge of hawthorn in flower at the entrance. While leaning over to get a better waft of the light summery scent, i saw this peculiar looking spider doing what looked like a ballooning dance. Since it looked like an adult, i paused to watch, and there was a light breeze that was picking up the threads being cast from it's spinnerettes. Although you can't tell from the photos, it's chelicera (spider lips) were a bright metallic green.
After some research on bugguide.net, i think ive narrowed it down to: Phidippus johnsoni, or Johnson Jumping Spider.
Such a beautiful creature!
