What if?
I woke up one morning and while having my morning coffee and cigarette a thought came to me. I did not ask for it, it came uninvited.
All of the answers I am looking for are within me.
Within all of us actually…
See, I believe your intuition is the bridge between your subconscious and your ego. Yes YOURS dear reader, because we all have those things even if we don’t know it/believe it.
…And no, I am not referring to Freud’s structural model of the psyche. Forget evidence-based science for a moment here and indulge me…
What I call the Ego, is your active mind, how you perceive the world, how you process information, your active memories, your conscious thoughts, wishes, and wants. This is the 5% of your mind (or 10%... depending on who you ask) that you are using to function on a day to day. The YOU that is created by the symphony of two beasts: Nature and Nurture.
This ego bases its reasoning on what you have learned about the world from other people, society, your interactions, and experiences. It is the sum total of all the rules and self-regulatory reflexes that have been instilled in you during your formative years.
Then there is your subconscious... well I call it that, but that’s not what it is really. It’s your spirit, your soul, your connection to God, the divine, the higher power….label it as you best see fit. I like to call it subconscious because the things that originate from here are hard to describe and understand with the 5%.
This is everything that we are born with, our spirit, buried deep in our being. All of our instincts, the source of love, and our energy. This is our battery the Sun charges and that is how we keep existing, breathing, as living human beings. This is what powers our bodies also btw. Otherwise, if we didn’t have this we would all be zombies.
But I digressed there….
So why do I think we are made of these two, often opposing sides? And why is that even relevant..?
If you ask any smart person where feelings come from, they might tell you it’s biological/chemical. They might say the heart, the soul, or the brain/mind.
And these are all true statements, but I believe there is a difference between the feelings evoked by the Ego and the feelings evoked by our Subconscious. Most times, these are at odds with each other.
The subconscious will often find itself trying to override the ego with the aim of setting our spirit free of the self and societally imposed restrictions and control.
The conduit for this is intuition, instinct, and what we call ‘gut feeling’. I prefer the latter name as I find mine always originates from the gut area of my body. It’s as if the information travels from my gut to my brain and I am given information I did not have before. If you have ever had this happen to you, you know exactly what I am talking about. Not one of us can explain how we suddenly knew what we knew. Or how those thoughts and vague images in our minds manifested into reality when we didn’t even try to use our imagination for them in the first place. They just came. Uninvited. Just like my thought did that morning.
Why does any of this matter you ask? Well, I don’t know, but my gut told me to write it down and put it out there, so here I am, writing this poor excuse of a blog because I have been blessed with the overwhelming urge to do so.
There are more Chapters to be published and even more to be written, but all in good time.
Bye-bye for now
