The meaning of spiritual infancy: "Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

There is a reference in the Gospel of Saint Matthew about the meaning of spiritual infancy:
"At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ´Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?´
He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: ´Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.´" Matthew 18:1-4

When Jesus speaks of being like children to enter the kingdom of God, he is not simply referring to an attitude of humility and simplicity before God: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3. The Kingdom of God is more than receiving God with a child's heart, the Kingdom of God is the transformation of man towards his nature, the conformity to God.
And this transformation of man implies a new birth, God changes our heart through the fear of God and gives us his likeness, makes us holy as he is holy: "Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God", Matthew 5:8
Being born again means in practical terms receiving the holy spirit, the fruition of the spiritual gifts:
"When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might received the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit." Acts 8:14-17.
What Jesus is telling us in essence when he receives the children and compares them with the entrance to the Kingdom of God is that we should not seek worldly vanities but the perfection of knowledge: "The disciple is not above his master; but every one that is perfect shall be as his master", Luke 6:40 .
Because this "perfection of knowledge" is the origin of the true spiritual goods of man, the beatitude.
