Mode of life:

Since time immemorial crabs of all sorts and size have been existing in most waters around Earth. Belonging to the group of crustaceans the crabs' actual habitat is the water, where they live on the sandy and muddy surface of tidal waters, flood areas or at the bottom of the sea, yet some species such as the pill bug managed to conquer land as their habitat. What virtually all crabs have in common is their gill breathing and a three-part body with a movable rear that is usually covered with soft skin on which the female crab carries her eggs. Moreover, crabs have antennea, parietal eye and eyes on inarticulate body parts like the prehensile claws or pincers. Crabs can walk and swim backwards but they cannot really move forwards, only sidewards. When their shell becomes too tight most crabs species start sloughing. The hermit crab has special "grab hooks" at its tail which it utilises to firmly anchor into mussels or snails so that in the event of danger it can completely withdraw into the borrowed shell. Some crabs seek additional protection by equipping their shell with aquatic plants the nettles of which fend off enemies. Crabs feed on small animals and organic material whereby they keep the water they live in clean. At the same time, crabs are a very sought-after nutritional source for animals of all kind and humans.

Spiritually light aspects:

Like most crustaceans, crabs are naturally reserved and cautious. They mumble:"instead of acting with precipitation carefully observe the situation at first. Go inward, listen to your gut feeling and thoroughly think about which direction you want to go from here before making a final decision." Thanks to its refined defenses the crab always foresightedly calculates potential threats and impediments so that it can withdraw in the nick of time to not get further entangled. The crab's antennae and parietal eye introduce us into our psychic abilities and open our senses for mystic experiences and subtle energy. With its peculiar behavior of anchoring into mussel or snail shells the crab also gifts us with amplified knack for domesticity and maternity; lavishing care and attention on our human physical vessel by supplying it with the right food sources, allowing it periods of rest to create a profound energetic restoration cycle and cultivating balanced thought patterns. That is how we reinforce our immunse system and find comfort in our body shell. We each have the power to decide which commodities and intel we welcome into our inner Soul palace.

Spiritually dark aspects:

Not being able to really walk forwards but only sidewards, the crab might become stuck in the past with an apprehension about the future. It might become so eaten up by trauma that any emotion felt is being multiplied in intensity, leading to unorthodoxly sidestepping the root cause of an issue. Simultaneously, in this state the crab deals out disproportionately painful blows with its claws that can entail the inadvertent knockout of its vicinity. The crab's crabbiness at its core is driven by a fear of loss and life, making for a potential tilt toward avarice and self-sabotage. If we don't want to get eaten up by our pent-up emotions we have to learn how to let go with self-empathy.
