The apostle Paul in the author of the epistle to the ephesians, in the epistle the apostle teaches us: "Be renewed in the spirit of your minds", Ephesians 4:3
It is interesting to note that the apostle uses the word "mind". The word "mind" refers to the orientation of the thought.
There is an expression about this in the letter to the Romans: "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the spirit, set their minds on the things of the spirit" Romans 8:5
The spirit and the flesh are associated with ways or moods of perceiving and reasoning, that oppose each other. Thence the difference between the natural man and the spiritual man.
But what is this change of mind for? Jesus teaches the disciples: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God" Matthew 5:8, also: "He opened their minds to understand the scriptures" Luke 24:45
The philosophy of Plato explains that there are two types of objects. the physical objects that are perceived with the senses and the immaterial objects that can be perceived with intelligence.
"Be renewed in the spirit of your minds" means that we have to change the orientation of our thinking to capture the eternal and immutable truths.
And to achieve this we must ask for wisdom and enlightenment of that inner spiritual master: "The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher" Luke 6:40. The spirit, the divine substance and inner master, is a spiritual gift.
For the beatitudes exposed in the sermon of the mount (Matthew 5:3-12 and Luke 6:20-26), Jesus promises prizes, awards, blessings to those who choose the progressive, fair, and edifyng mentality, the good mentality to renew ourselves and the world, as Jesus says: "The kingdom of God is already among you" Luke 17:21.
This is the mentality that renews us in the spirit and makes us like God.
