I live in Caracas, one of the most dangerous cities in the world, under a ferocious military dictatorship disguised as a socialism, with the highest crime rates on the planet.
Here millions of people have to eat from garbage, although the country has the largest oil reserves in the world. People die of any mild illness that, in another country, is cured by going to the pharmacy to buy a medicine for a couple of dollars. The military and the government are penetrated by drug trafficking, and millions of my compatriots have fled abroad.
I could have done it, because I have an universitary degree and with my job as a screenwriter I could survive in any Spanish-speaking or even English-speaking country.
But I have not left. I sense that I have a mission here. My friends all over the world ask me how hunger, violence and fear have not broken my soul.
How do I survive in the most dangerous city on the planet? My tool has a name. It is called The Wisdom of Kabbalah.
With Michael Laitman, Buenos Aires, winter 2009, World Congress of Kabbalah.
I started studying Kabbalah 9 years ago with Michael Laitman and his group Bnei Baruch from Petach Tikva, Israel. Laitman is a descendant by direct line teacher-student of two of the greatest cabalists of the twentieth century: Baal Ha Sulam and his son Baruch Ashlag, the Rabash.
I was filled with fear, my life was shattered, so I had nothing to lose when I abandoned philosophy and I threw myself without a parachute in search of the lights of the upper worlds, of the Ein Sof.
When I suspended the rational search for the truth and decided to try with faith above reason, strange things began to happen to me. The world changed, became interconnected as if I had discovered and accessed a network of lights and energy that secretly moves the universe, and that has always been there for us to discover and use.
Kabbalah comes from the Hebrew word le-kabel, which means to receive. What did I receive when I began studying Kabbalah? Just the same knowledge that Moses received on Mount Sinai, when the Torah was given to him, a knowledge that he transmitted to the elders of the tribes, to the priests, to the prophets, to the people of Israel, and from there to all the nations, for centuries, from the mouth of the teacher to the ear of the pupil.
Kabbalists have had to wait for many centuries in the dark, hidden, because the religious authorities always persecuted us, accused us of sorcerers, heretics, and almost always we ended up excommunicated and burned.
Just because we say that THIS Universe we know originated in a very simple point of light, that suddenly expanded, and gave birth to the dimensions of time, space, matter and energy, to the dimensions that we know and to those that we intuit and suspect that exist in parallel universes.
Yes, what we call today the Big Bang Theory, string theory, quantum physics, has been said by Kabbalists for many centuries.
Humanity only needed to reach a certain state of technological maturity, from the nineteenth century, so that these truths were corroborated by science, and that Kabbalists could come out openly to compare the wisdom we have inherited from the wise men of the desert , with the great scientific advances.
But I think that there is something more dangerous in the study of Kabbalah than the fact of having described the secret universe as science has finally discovered it. The dangerous thing about a Kabbalist is that he knows and preaches something unacceptable: that we are all united by networks of energy. That we are one interconnected soul, as CG Jung has described it in his theory of the collective unconscious. That the world is on the verge of destruction, because of selfishness in the appropriation of natural resources of the planet. That poverty is unacceptable in a world where we have all the resources so that nobody should be hungry. That the salvation of the planet passes through a minimal, simple precept that has been recognized by all the great religions of the world: Love your neighbor as yourself.
That is extremely dangerous. It has been preached by Christ, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, the sages of Israel, for thousands of years. But today it is evident to millions of people that if we do not change our selfishness for the desire to bestow with others, with the planet, with the universe, with the Creator who has given us all the goods, we will destroy human life on earth.
And you can tell me: How can you live thinking about your neighbor in the most dangerous city on the planet? How can you practice that wisdom and those precepts of bestowal surrounded by so much violence, hunger and fear?

It is precisely the mission that the Creator gave me, or that perhaps I chose, instead of being born in a wealthy Jewish family in New York. To study Kabbalah, to talk about Kabbalah, to teach the wisdom of Kabbalah, in the most dangerous city on the planet, that's my mission. It would have been easier to do it in Toronto, of course, but the harder road yields more juicy fruits.
I walk through the streets of Caracas, surrounded by lights, connected with the universal soul, and that's why I'm not missing anything. I just have to wish, and what I want appears to me, comes to me. I'm living in an eternal synchronicity, in Jung's sense. My life is a constant miracle.
Some Kabbalah centers offer you miracles for a handful of dollars. Who needs them and can afford them, go ahead.
I have learned with Javier Wolcoff, a great Argentine Jewish Kabbalist, that the Creator does not work miracles, that miracles are done by us. The Creator only guarantees that the mechanism of the Universe will work perfectly. You have to find out how it works (I learned it by studying Kabbalah), and from there ask, pray, meditate, act, and the mechanism will always give you exactly what you need, what you have asked for.
That's why I survive here, in the midst of a world who has fallen in the absolute fear. Because the Kabbalists have always said that the two great forces that dominate the world of the psychic, and the universe, are love and fear.
Fear is easy for anyone. But living in absolute love towards the Creator and his works, is something that has always sounded crazy to many.
I have achieved it, and that is why I have a splendid life, full of light. That is why I can survive in the most dangerous city in the world, teaching the wisdom of Kabbalah, thanking the Creator for having given me this mission, for making these lights, this staircase (Jacob's ladder), which makes me say in a very profound, honest and sincere sense and felling: it has been worthwhile to born and live over this world.
And you? Do you have something similar? Do you want to be a 21st century Kabbalist? The path is open, the wisdom is available to everyone from the invention of the Internet. It's up to you. What can you lose?

I wouldn't pay them for a miracle, but is always up to you.

In such extreme conditions like what you are describing, what've you learned in your studies relative to the inner energy system of the human body?

Well, as says Javier Wolcoff in Argentina, there are two main forces in the universe, fear and love. If you live in fear, nothing works, if you live in love, everyting goes perfectly. When you see a dictatorship like our face to face, you can run. But you force your body and your habits to have no fear, force yourself to ask only for the upper lights, and then the miracle happens. I don't know how, but Kabbalists are like the X Men, mutants, with differente powers. Mine is sincronocity in the very sense of the theory of CG Jung. Everything become connected, mi thouhgts and my environment, the things I think and the responses of the universe, not only in messages I see, I listen, I read, but also with phisical responses: persons you are thinking on suddenly appear, this you need and ask for appear, and you feel your body and soul working in a different level of energy and light. But is hard, you descend also, and the daily path is to recognize this descend, ask energy and go up again a little stair... Well, nine years with the method of Baal Ha Sulam, the Rabash and Laitman. You have to try yourself, haver!
