ARE TATTOOS SINFUL? || JEFFERSON BETHKE - REBUTTAL

in spirituality •  6 years ago

This is my first time doing a rebuttal.

After coming across the video "Are Tattoos Sinful" by Jefferson Bethke, I decided to do a rebuttal video. While my rebuttal is below, I'll share his full video here if you want to watch the whole thing first:

Are Tattoos Sinful? || Jefferson Bethke

In his video, a lot of ideas that are common in modern Christianity come out. With a basic knowledge of scripture and some reasoning skills, it is easy to debunk his arguments, but unfortunately many still believe the things that Mr. Bethke shares.

This rebuttal is in no means an attack on Jefferson Bethke, but instead it is meant to add some additional insight into this touchy subject, and to provide a more accurate perspective than the one that he provides.

If you would, would you please watch this video until the end as well, because some spiritual food for thought is presented after the rebuttal that I sincerely hope believers will consider.

Also, if you know Jefferson Bethke personally or have had communication with him, would you please make him aware of this video. I honestly would like to know his thoughts about what I present. Thank you.

I see the tattoo as an art, people choose their drawing and give it a meaning, everyone does with their body what they want. I think there are bad things in life like the deadly sins. but the tattoo and it is s
harmless and very artistic, the video is interesting.

Thanks for checking it out and sharing your thoughts.

I listened to both and take your point of view. I can not that religious but respect a lot of what the bible tells us.

Thanks for checking it out man. I appreciate that!

I think they are sinful .
God has perfected everything

I choose not to tattoo my body, never have and probably never will. Part of it is scripture. Yes. Part is practical.

  1. Do we really know the long term effects of ink in our body. Could it bring us cancer or some illness down the road. It is a foreign substance to our body.
  2. Is it a soft form conditioning. In other words - If folks can get used to a mark on their body, they will be more receptive to having a mark or tracking placed on their hand or forehead. Ie a RFID chip or bar code. This may be a non-threatening form of introduction by Satan.
  3. Personally they make the body look dirty from a distance. Yes some may be artistic but I feel the majority are not.

My question is what about the Christian who wishes to put a bible passage or Jesus loves you message on their body. In other words in their own way try to glorify God through making their body as a advertisement for God? I would not do this but have had this question posed to me long ago by a friend. We are supposed to spread the word of God. What is your response to that argument @papa-pepper? We have the Leviticus scripture that speaks out against this yet we have countless scripture that encourages spreading the gospel. There are those who would think this may be one way of doing it. Thanks for taking time and addressing this topic with your series.

I think that plenty of t-shirts or other apparel could get the job done too. If we consider, man can always come up with some interesting ideas and justification. For instance, plenty of people will never go to a church, read a Bible, or seek out God... they just watch pornography.... Should we create a porno that preaches the gospel in it to reach these poor lost souls? I think that we know the answer to that one, but I use it to illustrate a point.

Ultimately, we must do the Lord's work the Lord's way, and He tells us what it is. Thanks for all of your input, time, and interaction with this series!

I agree! We don’t love our spouse based on how we want to love them, but by how they want to be loved. God wants us to love Him how He tells us to love Him.

You know it’s funny. Before I discovered all of God’s commands still apply to us today, I didn’t have a clue what Christians even believed as far as how to obey God. I had no idea what the Bible said, because I never read it. I just passively sat in church and went through the sacraments and such. I didn’t even even know that they thought Jesus did away with the “ceremonial” laws. It wasn’t until after I came to the truth that I found out what they believed. I was pretty much learning God’s truth and the lies the modern church believes in at the same time.

Unfortunately, this caused me to stumble in trying to understand sacrifices. I didn’t get a good understanding of the truth on sacrifices before I understood why the Christian church believes they’ve been done away with. So sometimes I get tripped up in trying to understand why sacrifices would still be necessary if a temple were around today. I think I have some understanding on why, but if you could ever cover that topic sometime, that would be helpful!

There are so many people that offer their opinions/interpretations of what the Bible says as if they are the only possible opinions/interpretations, I'm glad that you did this one to help point that out. :D
God bless you and your wonderful family. :D Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D

Ah..picking and choosing. The "church" does it so well, now that I am seeing things through different eyes I can see that I once did it too!
