First..congratulations to @cornavirus for winning the giveaway. Thank you to everyone who commented. I encourage you to comment on this post for a chance to win the cards discussed.

It is essential at the start of your Splinterlands journey to experiment with all five splinters (Earth, Water, Fire, Life, Death) as each one offers a slight variation in gameplay. See which one resonates with you as you advance your knowledge and experience.

Your gameplay should evolve as you compete in more battles.

To that end I will try and rotate my splinter selection to give you some tips and strategies for whatever match may come up.

Today I want to look at one of my all time favorite tank cards in Bronze and Silver play for Earth splinter. It is none other than:

STONESPLITTER ORC

For those of you who have been following my blog you know I've written about this guy before. I LOVE him for an opening Earth splinter tank. I have seen him chew up and spit out Monsters twice his size and come back hungry for more.

This Rare Monster is available int he Alpha and Beta cards sets. You can acquire it from the market for $0.10 or comment and try to win a copy of one here. At Level 1 (1 bcx) you get 3 attack, 3 speed, 1 shield and 4 life for 6 mana. This makes him a solid middle of the road Monster in most formats. Its the ability that brings something special to the table.

Retaliate - When hit with a Melee attack, Monsters with Retaliate have a chance of attacking their attacker.

This is where this card doubles down on the damage inflicted.

This would be enough in and of itself but let's see how we can improve this bad boy and take him to the next level. This can be done with a little help from two of his Earth Monster allies. Either or both of these creatures can be added to improve not only the impact of the Stonesplitter Orc but of your whole team.

Wood Nymph
If the Stonesplitter Orc has one weakness is that he doesn't stick around for very long with only 4 life. Here comes Wood Nymph to the rescue with her Tank Heal ability in her Level 1 form she is a MUST for low level Earth splinter play. Her 4 mana cost makes her very manageable and her 1 magic allows her to go offensive and defensive. A common reward card she is available in the marketplace for $0.016 per card.

But wait there's more!!!!

Brownie
This Epic Reward Earth Monster will boost the speed factor of all your friendly Monsters by 1. He only uses 1 mana! So looking back on the Stonesplitter Orc the Brownie will raise his speed to 4 which is usually good to get in an opening Round strike before your opponent's tank. Then Retaliate helps you deliver a second hit. The shield can absorb the first strike and the Wood Nymph can restore the health to repeat.

As I said, depending on the format and the mana cap you can use one, two, or all three of these Monsters in an Earth splinter battle. Try them out. Let me know what works and doesn't work for your personal play style.

As always I will be giving away a set of the cards mentioned in this post to one lucky winner so be sure to leave a comment. Remember to have fun and Play On!!!

Nice post! I actually have a stone splitter orc but I don't use it. The only reason I have it is because I found it for 6 cents on monster market so I snatched it up. I mainly do not use it because of its low health, one of its major flaws as you mentioned. His high mana cost is another flaw. Damage is great I'd admit but his mediocre speed makes him get destroyed by fast magic attacks that you often face in higher leagues. Overall a solid card, but wouldn't recommend for the high leagues. Great post!

Keep in mind the advice here is targeted towards either new players or those hanging out in the lower leagues (Bronze/Silver). I am trying to identify ways for them to advance in skill with basic level 1 Summoners and Monsters. Maybe I will alternate every so often with strategies for Gold level play. My main account is Champion 3. My two alts are Basic but finish every season in Gold. I manually play every match - every day.

Yes I know. Good job at achieving champion 3 by the way! Even in Silver leagues and Bronze 1, you will see people starting to use Phantom Solider and Spirit Miners and any of those combos will destroy stonesplitter orc. I personally dislike playing that card since it can also be crushed by goblin mech which is super common in low leagues. Maybe in melee mayhem, he is good with 3 damage. Back line to protect against sneak is also a good idea.

Nice strategy, have to try stonespliter orc. He have been completely under my radar until now. Still bit worried about magic burstdown, but for minimally no magic matches he seems really cool.

Here is a silver league battle with orc in front. The opposing team has magic and he still polishes off two monsters before succumbing.

Brownie appears in almost every lineup. Stonesplitter orc was noticed in a novice tournament yesterday!

Good to know. I am always impressed by the diligence you put into researching battle logs. Keep it up.

Brownie is one great card as it helps boosts the speed of all the units as well as giving you a bigger chance to strike first your enemy monsters.
