Another solution is to use Thunderbird. It doesn't have a file-size limit as far as I know. In addition, you can archive an email by just pressing "A". By default they get archived by year. It's extremely convenient, and I find myself hitting "A" even when in Outlook. However not everyone can upgrade to Thunderbird because they are stuck in a Microsoft environment - in which case this tip comes handy.
