Which national team has the best probability of winning the FIFA Confederations Cup?steemCreated with Sketch.

I’d consider Chile to be the favorite this year as Vidal, Sanchez, and Vargas have all been in fine form this year and are coming off back to back Copa America wins. Portugal and Mexico shouldn’t be discounted either.

Despite Germany being considered a “favorite” by many (coming off a World Cup victory and being ranked in the top 3 for the last 3–4 years), I would say Germany are NOT favorites to win the Confed Cup. The reason being is relatively simple: It’s not a priority for them, and as such, a large portion of Germany’s top talent (automatic first team players) aren’t even a part of this squad. Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos, Jerome Boateng, Matts Hummels, Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil, Manuel Neuer, etc.. All of these guys are NOT traveling to/playing in Russia.

Instead Joachim Low has named a younger squad, some of whom will be competing on the world stage for the first time. The reason being that many of Germany’s top players are anywhere from 27–31 and are entering the prime OR the twilights of their careers. Thus, Low sees this tournament as a good opportunity to start developing the younger generation of strong Germany players as a transition of power (so to speak) will follow next year’s World Cup. During THAT world cup, all the names above will feature for Germany as THAT is a priority for Die Mannschaft: defending their World Cup title. You’ll see a lot of these younger players featuring in the Confed Cup (Mustafi, Draxler, Brandt, Stindl, etc.) all feature as well during WC 2018. But Low is being extremely smart in giving his more mature and experienced players a rest while grooming the younger players to be the future of Die Mannschaft.

Who do you think will win the Confedrations cup and why?
