One more day of baseball practice: Outfielder or Gardeners training

in sport •  7 years ago  (edited)
Baseball's playing field is divided into two very distinctive areas (which I explained in [previous post](https://steemit.com/spanish/@maikelsoto/aprendamos-del-deporte-mas-bonito-del-mundo-el-baseball). These areas of the field are: infield and outfield, or translating them into Spanish would be an indoor garden and outdoor garden. Said areas of the terrain can be studied separately, to find the players with the necessary skills to be able to cover them, but in the end, they will always form a closed link since they are part of a single entity. The outfielder is divided into 3 large areas that cover one player at a time, these are: leftfield, centerfield, and right fielder.

The outfield or outer garden is the most extensive area of the terrain and the area to which the batters of the rival team, seek to carry the ball after making contact with the bat or baseball bat. For being such extensive area players who dare to cover them need to meet certain physical requirements, necessary to do a good job in this important area of play.

As a coach, I try to put players in this area who have:

  • Power in your throwing arm: that is, having enough strength to get the ball to the infielder or inner garden, since obviously, they must throw it to be able to make out the runners.

  • Speed in your legs: Being speed is important for gardeners since it allows them to have greater reach.

  • Perception of depth:: this property in the players is essential and I think it is the most important of the fundamental requirements of the gardeners, I explain the why? Imagine standing in an extensive field of about 50 square meters, and a friend throws a spherical object with a circumference of only ** 9 inches ** that rises to 100 meters and falls inside the area of those 50 square meters that are covering. Remember that you must tackle that ball that comes from the ground to the ground, when you try to look up to calculate where the ball will fall to try to stop it, friends I swear that they will not be close to being able to do it. The perception of depth that you have will not come close to that of a baseball player, or even better than a baseball outfielder, I assure you that as soon as the ball goes off, he will be like 3 or 5 seconds standing exactly where the ball will fall.

100_5124.JPG

This is an obviously more than fundamental skill for a baseball player, since more than 50% of the contacts made by the hitters are high, fly or lines, so always during the practices imparted specialized plays for the fielders, and different plays that they must complement the players of the inner square to make more effective to remove from circulation to the rival runners and batters.

The plays always consist, always in different situations of play, of course, to set precedents of the things that have to be done in those moments, an example that I always teach in class is: imagine that we have man in first and second and that a line what, hit it in front of the right fielder, what should we do?

100_5067.JPG

It depends on how deep the hit the runners take the bases they can, but the second runner probably would not run to the Home if he knows that the right fielder has a powerful arm that knows he can get him out on the rubber. But all this goes further, as a team all players must articulate to avoid scoring, infielders must be placed in such a way that they are attentive to any possibility of throwing the right fielder's ball, and first base must act as a pivot or point of reference so that the outfielder knows where the ball should go, strategically placed between the outfielder and the catcher to cut the trajectory of the ball if there is no possibility of out in the Home, and search out in other bases, or leave it to pass so that the recipient can do their job.

In the game of baseball, different plays can be presented as explained above, which are studied and practiced incessantly during training to solve it in the best way during the execution of the game. Baseball is a game of strategy and passion, I hope that with my different classes and explanations, they will be scoring and be part of the wonderful world of this beautiful sport.

My oldest daughter started playing fast pitch girls softball at the age of 9. I told her then to pick a spot and that would be where I groomed her to play. She wanted centerfield so the journey started! She ended up going to college playing centerfield and starting as a freshman. You must be a athlete to play that position! Nice write up! Thanks!

Thank you very much for commenting. The central garden is one of the most difficult baseball positions, because of the wide playing field that must be covered, you have every reason to play it, you must be a true athlete, congratulations to your daughter for such beautiful achievements.
