Been seeing people asking if Tom Brady is the GOAT of sports GOATs because he has 7 Super Bowl rings. Please.
I don't know who the GOAT of GOATs is for sure, but may I present at least one athlete that blows Tom Brady out of the water: Babe Zaharias.
After excelling in baseball and basketball in high school, Babe went on to become a multi-year All-American basketball team selection in her short time playing amateur basketball. Her athletic dominance could not be contained to just basketball though. Her employer wanted to put up a team to complete in the Amateur Athletic Association track and field event (which also acted as an Olympic qualifier). Only problem was their "team" consisted solely of Babe. Turned out not to be an issue, because, competing as a team by herself, she won 6 individual events AND the team title. She scored 8 more points as an individual than the entire 2nd place team combined.
This qualified her for 5 Olympic events. Unfortunately, rules for women's Olympics limited her to three. In her three events, she won gold medals in javelin and hurdles (setting world records), and a silver medal in high jump. She remains the only Olympic athlete, male or female, to ever win individual medals in running, throwing and jumping.
After the Olympics, she made money starring on touring basketball and baseball teams (and dabbled in pro baseball). Then she thought that she might as well give golf a try, because why not? Despite starting her golf career pretty late in life and not beginning her professional golf career until her mid-30's, Babe went on to become by wide consensus the greatest female golfer of all time, winning 10 major championships in her short 9 year career (cut short by her death from cancer).
In addition to baseball, basketball, track and field and golf, Babe also found time to become an expert diver, roller-skater and bowler, an accomplished swimmer, billiards player and figure skater and dabble successfully in tennis, volleyball, handball, cycling and boxing.
In short, she was an athletic titan and nothing short of absolutely amazing.
