Just four short months after their 34-28 Super Bowl victory over the Atlanta Falcons, the New England Patriots finally received the fruits of their labor. At a ceremony last night, the players and staff received their championship rings.

The 283 diamonds are a record number for a piece of NFL hardware, but that isn't the only special meaning contained therein.

Inscribed on the ring is the phrase "Greatest Comeback in History", which somehow may be an understatement. After an atrocious start to the Super Bowl last February, the Patriots found themselves down 28-3 to the underdog Falcons.

Only four teams in the history of the NFL had come back from 25 points behind... and the Patriots did it on the biggest stage of all. From 28-3 to 34-28. An improbable victory.

28 to 3. 28-3. 283.

283 sparkling diamonds.

Some may see it as a troll move. Some see it as classless. I see it as commemorating the greatest comeback in history, just like it says on the ring.

I was not figuring out why there were 283 diamonds until you explained it, haha. That ring is incredible.

Get Zach Hubbard on the case, he'll be able to point out about 10 other secret meanings related to this number with direct connections to the NFL. Stuff like "Tom Brady's cousin's ex-wife's college roommate once ate 283 potato chips at the game in 1977 when Terry Bradshaw threw for 283 yards. Coincidence? I THINK NOT"
