McGregor won't shut up about Poirier

I suppose none of us should be shocked that Conor is a bitter sore loser after the trilogy with Dustin Poirier didn't go in his favor. Of course we all know that this is because his leg was snapped in an gruesome fashion but this doesn't stop the "Notorious One" from complaining about the loss not being real any opportunity that he gets.

look it up if you haven't seen it, it's pretty stomach-turning, especially in slo-mo

Conor has established himself in mine and many other people's books as the person that we love to see fight, but are almost always cheering for the other guy since his bad boy persona hasn't been backed up by any sort of actual in-ring performance for a while.... and now, beating Cowboy Cerrone doesn't count - that guy takes fights every month and is well beyond his prime.

Recently, Conor took to his good pal Twitter to congratulate Fury and Wilder for their amazing heavyweight fight that was one for the record books for sure. Normally I don't like boxing because I find it boring but this one was a slugfest from start to eventual 11th round KO finish the likes of which we don't see very often in the sport of boxing.

Conor was correct to congratulate both men on their performance but he couldn't just leave it at that. As usual, he used this opportunity to turn the spotlight on himself because he just can't help himeself.

I'm sure that MMA fans know exactly what he is talking about here but in case you don't, Conor is attempting to discredit Dustin Poirier's trilogy-ending victory because Conor was unable to continue because his leg was snapped in two. He has not stopped attacking Dustin since then and the crazy thing about all of this is that when this feud first began, it was a friendly thing that was meant to go to charity. I suppose there is no such thing as a "goodwill" fight with McGregor because immediately after Conor lost the 2nd fight, the friendliness completely disappeared as did his willingness to donate the promised money to Poirier's charity.

Conor would later go on to make claims that Poirier's charity is illegitimate and that Dustin is using the charity to enrich himself and his family, not to help anyone. I know that a lot of charities are mired in "administrative costs" but other than this (which is the case with almost any charity) there isn't actually any proof that Conor's claims are true.

He came across as a bitter and sore loser. For a while there I thought that the back-and-forth between him and Dustin was all just carefully orchestrated PR to pump the numbers for their 3rd fight and if that was the case, it worked but unfortunately the fight was called off early in the 2nd because, again, Conor couldn't continue because one of his legs was now being held in place merely by the skin encasing the bones in his left leg.

Even though he was incapable of standing, Conor wasted no time after this fight to attack not just Dustin, but also his opponent's family and most particularly, Dustin's wife who Conor had claimed was trying to flirt with him on multiple occasions. The world will never know if any of this is true but even if it is, it isn't appropriate or good sportsmanship to do this sort of thing. He was booed by the crowd as it was happening and I was happy to see that.

But here we are again where Conor is attempting to take the limelight away from someone else and shine it on himself and I had to groan when I saw it. I will say this though, Conor is very good at keeping himself relevant by playing (or actually being) the biggest heel that MMA has ever seen. If it was really anyone else in the sport, he would have been released after this fight because it has been a while since he actually did anything impressive in the Octagon and I would be surprised if there is ever a time that we do see him return to his former glory.

When he does return to the sport, and you can be all but guaranteed that he will, he is going to part robot as his leg had to be reconstructed after the TKO loss to Poirier. If you were watching that fight you know that even before the leg was broken, Dustin was dominating Conor by every metric. Conor has a tough road ahead of him in the next couple of years and if he loses once he re-emerges, I think we may finally shut this guy up.

Until then, I would imagine we can count on him taking digs at Dustin and the UFC every chance that he gets even when the matter at hand, such as WBC Heavyweight boxing matches, don't have anything to do with him or Poirier.
