I expect to catch some flack on this because I know there are a ton of people out there that are fans of NASCAR and especially Formula-1. I have tried, believe me, to enjoy these events with people that love them, but just like when I tried to understand cricket with people who understand that convoluted game, I just can't get into it.
I understand that there is a lot of excitement during a crash but especially with NASCAR it just seems like there really isn't all the much opportunity for drivers to even get past one another... to me this makes the sport very boring.

I think NASCAR is probably a lot more boring that Formula 1 in my mind because of the fact that almost all of the races take place on a giant circular track. The fact that they manage to get upwards of 100,000 people to attend these things is something that just bewilders me. You would have to pay me to attend one of these events and even then if I had it as an option I would probably spend most of my time looking at my phone.
There are Formula-1 races where the track is so narrow, such as in Monaco I think it is called, that it is nigh on impossible for anyone to pass anyone. The winner seems to be determined by the pole position, if I am even using the correct term here. What I mean is that the person who starts out in front seems to almost always stay there. So if you get off the line better than the other drivers congratulations! You are almost certainly going to win the race!

Another aspect about both of these sports is the fact that the teams with the most money basically always come out on top. I hate this about any sports, especially soccer/football in Europe and elsewhere, where the same couple of teams are always at the top (with rare exceptions) solely because of the fact that they have the ability to outspend their opponents by 5 or 10 times the amount.
I just don't see the excitement in watching a bunch of cars go around in a circle, even if they are going 200 miles per hour, when there really isn't a lot of passing going on. I think the "shake and bake slingshot" of *Talladega Nights" would be interesting if it were actually real but I don't think that it is.
If you are a fan of racing sports, know that I am not attacking you personally. I like a very wide range of sports and am also very aware of the fact that most of the world has almost a sort of disdain for my favorite sport of American football. I don't see my stance on racing sports ever changing because to me I just find them really boring, even if I am in a bar with friends who love it. At least at the bar there are other distractions like beer, I guess.
