Sergi Roberto found it surprising when he was left out of Spain 23 man squad for the recently concluded world cup in Russia, and he hopes the tenure of the new coach Luis Enrique will favour him back to the national team.
Enrique - who was the former Barcelona coach, was appointed to succeed the former coach Fernando Hierro who saw the team to a disappointing world cup as the 2010 world cup winners were eliminated by the host Russia in the round of 16.
"I was so convinced I would be picked for the competition [World Cup] but the coach made his decision after considering other players, all I could do was to follow the tournament on television. Now there is new boss whom I have worked with before, I hope to be back in the team." Roberto said to reporters.
Despite being considered as a midfielder at first, the Spaniard is played as a defender in the right wing back at Barcelona appearing 30 times for the LaLiga winners in the 2018/19 campaign.
