Know "The Form of Water". An enveloping story of love.

A few hours ago, the Oscars 2018 awards were held, where he won the best film The Shape of Water directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by the Toro himself and by Vanessa Taylor.

Elisa Esposito is a young woman who was left speechless due to a neck injury suffered as a girl, and communicates using sign language. She lives alone in an apartment above a movie theater and works as a cleaner in a secret government laboratory in Baltimore during the Cold War in the early 1960s. Her two closest friends are her next-door neighbor, Giles, who he is an artist and a lonely gay man, and Zelda, an African-American partner at work who also serves as interpreter during the workday.

The installation receives a tank full of water inside which there is a creature that has been captured in a South American river by Colonel Richard Strickland. Curious, Elisa discovers that the creature is a humanoid amphibian. He begins to visit her in secret and the two form a close bond.

In an attempt to use the creature with a view to obtaining possible advantages in the space race, General Frank Hoyt orders Strickland to kill her to study it. A scientist, Robert Hoffstetler, who is actually a Soviet spy, unsuccessfully advocates keeping the creature alive to study it more thoroughly, and at the same time receives the order of his superiors in the Soviet espionage to practice euthanasia. Elisa learns what the Americans have planned for the creature, and convinces Giles to help him free him. Hoffstetler discovers the plot of Elisa and decides to help her. Zelda gets involved when the flight has already started.

Elisa keeps the child in her bathtub using water conditioning chemicals smuggled by Hoffstetler, planning to release it in a nearby canal when it opens to the ocean in several days. As part of his efforts to recover the creature, Strickland interrogates Elisa and Zelda, but dismisses the idea that "servitude" could be involved. Back at the apartment, Giles discovers that the creature is eating one of his cats. Surprised, the creature cut a Giles arm and leaves the apartment. The creature arrives to the cinema below, before Elisa finds it and returns it to her apartment. The creature touches Giles with his wounded arm, and the next morning, Giles discovers that his hair has regrown and that the wounds on his arm are healed. Elisa and the creature soon become sentimentally involved.

Meanwhile, Hoyt threatens the life of Strickland if he does not recover the "resource" in 36 hours. At the same time, Hoffstetler's spies tell him they will take him out two days later. As the planned release date approaches, the creature's health begins to deteriorate due to lack of salt water.

When Hoffstetler goes to meet his spies, Strickland follows him. Hoffstetler is shot by his superiors, but before they can finish him off, Strickland kills the spies and then tortures Hoffstetler for information. Hoffstetler implicates Elisa and Zelda before dying of his injuries. Strickland then threatens Zelda at home, causing her terrified husband to reveal that Elisa had been supporting the child. Strickland looks for Elisa's apartment and finds a calendar note that reveals where she is carrying the creature.

In the channel, Elisa and Giles say goodbye to the creature, but Strickland arrives and shoots the creature and Elisa. The creature heals and kills Strickland. When the police arrive on the scene with Zelda, the child takes Elisa and jumps into the canal, where he heals her. Loose ends are tied to her mute disease and her past that she was found in a swamp, because the scar that she had on her neck really were gills because she was not completely human, but was a mermaid. An epilogue by Giles reveals that Elisa and the creature escaped together.
