Meetings, Meetings, Meetings

The title of this first article is pretty indicative of one of the main hallmarks of starting a start-up (at least for me). There are countless meetings. Meetings to discuss every detail;
I feel as if they are all essential to the success of our company.

Today we talked about the potential market size and consumers of our product. Now, I don't want to bore you all with the nitty-gritty details, instead I want to focus on some things I've noticed about extremely successful people.

  • How comfortable everyone looks
    • It goes without saying that they are comfortable financially; but I am talking also about their general demeanors which are comprised of confidence, accomplishment and happiness. Believe it or not, everyone seemed extremely relaxed!
  • How fast paced everyone is
    • Today we had a meeting, at the end everyone was assigned action items which are tasks to be completed. Within 3 hours of the meeting I've already received 2 emails from two separate people giving me updates about their action items. To say they work quickly is an understatement. It's important to emphasize that their work is not sloppy either.
  • How humble everyone is
    • Throughout all of these meetings, I've never felt looked down upon, or undervalued. Who am I? I'm basically nobody compared to the people I am beginning to associate with. I am beginning to learn how important it is to take everyone seriously; you have no idea what someone is capable of until you give them a chance to prove him or herself.

Here is a picture of a car I peeked in the garage of the member who hosted the meeting today, it's not everyday you see such a beautiful, 1960s era jaguar :)

I have no idea if our start-up will succeed; regardless, I believe that it will.
Meeting all of these new people makes me feel extremely lucky to be where I am; I don't know what I've done to be given the opportunity in front of me, but I know I will do everything possible to take full advantage of my situation and to succeed!

This was just the first post about my journey starting a startup. There will be many more to come, ranging from my experience with lawyers, actual product development, and I will most likely talk about the products that we are working on (perhaps in the future when and if they make it to market). I hope some of you enjoyed reading what I had to write :)
