Gods Unchained (Game Review) - Unleash Your Gods

in stateofthedapps •  6 years ago  (edited)

Playing games is fun; At least for gamers like me; but playing games and earning in cryptocurrency is much more fun. This is the reason I always get fascinated by games built on the blockchain technology. Yet again; I found another game that you would like, and if you have played card games like "Hearthstone" before, then you would certainly be thrilled to know that you can now earn while playing card games - I present to you Gods Unchained.

WHAT IS GODS UNCHAINED?

Gods unchained is a digital card gaming DApp designed by the duo of James Ferguson and Robbie Ferguson to run on the ethereum erc721 blockchain technology. Just like the normal card games you might have been familiar with, the Gods unchained gaming process is initiated by each user accumulating cards and building a collection of unique cards (which represent gods; for this game), and these gods would be used to play against other players in a pre-scheduled tournament; of which the user with a powerful deck or collection of gods would stand a chance of winning the tournament, and earning points in form of tradable ethereum-based tokens. The uniqueness of this game has earned it the 32nd position in the StateOfTheDApps ranking.

One of the purposes of this game is to compete against your opponents using your own collection of gods. But much more than this; completion of certain quests victoriously would also earn you some points, and the playing modalities is on a turn-by-turn basis. That is, after your first move, your opponent would also initiate their own first move, and it continues like that. That is why you need to choose your cards smartly and choose your moves wisely.

UNLEASHING THE GODS

For viability and more fun, each sets of cards (gods) comes with various abilities and powers. For example; some gods have the power to enchant against other gods and suck their powers, while some come with shielding effects. Also, some gods can generate incantations in form of letters (runes) that can either send attacks to the opponent, heal itself, or give additional strength to any other god. I'm sure you are already piqued to see the trailer of this game; here it is.

GAME TRAILER

So basically, the Gods unchained is a battle of gods (cards) against other gods. And when you run out of cards, you can always go for a replacement from the card store. Also, for the quest I mentioned earlier, it could come in many forms. The most popular one is the quest for the "bag of tricks", and the user that discovers this bag before others would acquire some fierce god-powers, and would make them stronger and battle-ready to take on other gods. But in all these, every god would always have at least one exclusively unique ability which can be used per time, but this ability is not unlimited though.

GETTING STARTED

Someone might be asking "how do I get started with this game?" First of all, you would need to sign up and create an account in the Gods unchained portal. Awesomely enough, the game can run on both the desktop and mobile platforms, but of course, you would need an installation of metamask (for those intending to play via desktop), or you can download Cipher (for mobile users), so you would be able to sync your ethereum-based wallet with the gaming DApp.

After signing up, you would need to head straight to the card portal by click the "start collection" button (as shown in the screenshot above), where you would be required to buy from various choices of gods. Each god with unique ability is priced differently, and you would be required to pay with ethereum. And of course, the gods can also be converted back to ethereum and sold for other cryptocurrencies. Also, signing up would grant you access to a free first level, but you would need to unlock the next levels based on the advances you make.

Awesomely enough; and because this game is built on the blockchain technology; every of your moves, your gods, and your levels would be saved immutably for "life". Even after a powerful god has gone extinct, you can still access it from your collections, and still use it to battle against other gods - like a very legendary god; "Lord of Whispers"; which can be summoned anywhere (even in an inactive state) and used to eavesdrop into what cards your opponent is coming against you with.

Also, as spells are being cast on a god, the powers of the god would be diminishing, which would also be decreasing the points. So, to boost this up, you would need to acquire new gods. Because when you run out of gods, it would be a "game over". But to prevent this from happening, you can always make purchases from the card store to acquire new and fierce gods.

MY TAKE ON THIS GAME

Really, I've played card games both offline and online, and one thing that is common is the fact that the cards you use to play are not actually yours. But with the fact that this game is tokenized and it operates under the blockchain technology, every card you acquire remains yours except you want to sell them. This gives users absolute ownership of cards - and as such, it is a plus for Gods unchained. Another plus in this game is; for every level and stage you are playing, there would always be an on-screen instruction to point you to the right direction. And of course, you can also refer to the in-game "help button". So on the overall, I would give a thumbs up to the game, and would rate it satisfactorily.
