Today I am going to examine, how payouts on posts and comments are distributed across accounts of various reputations and durations. Who are the active posters?

Are the big payouts being generated by Steemit Vets, by Newbies or somewhere in between?
Distribution of Post Rewards
Each dot in the following graph represents a post during the period October to December with the colour representing the date the account making the post was created. The Y axis shows how much was paid out for the post.
- Dark Blue = Post by an older account
- Light blue = Post by a newer account
Visually the larger payouts are paid to longer serving member of the Community but there is a significant number of newer authors also making high payouts. Running some correlation stats (Payouts vs Duration of Account) gives a weak correlation of 0.25.
Distribution of Comment Rewards
Next we look at the rewards for all the comments posted from October to December.
What is noticeable are some very large payouts on comments from some older accounts in October and December.
Let's take a slightly different view of the rewards.
Different durations of Account Activity
These next graphs plot the payouts but ordered by the duration since account creation. The data is the same data and for the same period (October - December) as the first two graph. We have added colour here which represents the reputation of the author.
Payouts on Posts
The left hand side shows activity on older accounts, the right shows newer accounts.
- There is a lot of activity and significant rewards for new authors on the platform!
Payouts on Comments
- We see a more even distribution of payouts here across the different durations of accounts.

Thanks for this post. Your posts are very helpful for new members like me. I have a question. Will a month/year old post written by me generate revenue/reward for me? Or is it like only the posts that are less than 7 days old generates revenue/rewards. Apologize me if the question is very basic. If there are any articles in this topic please refer me. Thanks!

be active, make posts, read posts and comment.
thats the simple key, but takes time and work. Looks like steemit is getting more and more activity which should be good for everyone.
