A decentralised Journey with Status.Im

During my usual voyage through the land of Stateofthedapps that I do to to test out decentralised applications and find any that can I can use, I actually encountered Status and a few weeks ago I actually discussed the prospect of this project with some friends of mine at class.

Decentralization is very trendy and what we have here is another application of the concept. I am usually skeptical when I encounter products like this one that promise a varying range of functions, I feel like it is better to focus and get one thing right than to get many things partially right but I think my logic might be proven wrong here.

ETH blockchain was chosen as the blockchain of choice and I imagine it is because of the numerous benefits of the platform. Proven capable, support of numerous similar dapps, a popular network with millions of users and a framework that is geared for the long haul.
To fully grasp what Status is about, I went with downloading the mobile application for Android phones. There is also a version for IOS and PC. First thing to do is create an account and that's as easy as creating a password, verifying the password, then selecting a username and just like that, you're ready to get started.

The app is set to operate with wifi by default so if you use mobile internet from a mobile network then you will have to quickly change that .

Go to Settings and allow the app to sync chats using mobile data.

You're all set to use the dapp. I went straight to the profile section to update my details. In this section you can sort out the main currency, permissions, notifications and back up your recovery phase. Follow the steps and save your recovery phrase in the event that you lose your account.

> Status is more than an app, it's a community of people creating the tools and infrastructure to build a better web. You can use tools like App to chat, transact and access the revolutionary new world of Dapps.source

This phrase above depicts the versatility of this impressive dapp that is still in its developmental phase. The Status chat for example is different from your regular instant messenger. Well like typical messengers, you can create a chatroom with any topic of your choice but what makes it stand out is the special feature that allows you instantly create a chatroom based on any website or dapp you're using. This means that if you encounter anyone on any platform that is within the bounds of ETH blockchain and uses status to access it, you and the individual or people can just create a quick chatroom for any discussion. This takes out the need for using alternative messenger apps and making life a lot easier.

Speaking of the browser, status is equipped with a Web3 browser that can access any dapp within the ETH blockchain. There's a dapp station embedded in it to allow for easy navigation through the dapps and you can use any one you want without need for external verification because your Status app also works as a wallet.

You can store your BTC, Eth and many other ERC20 tokens that includes the local currency used on Status called SNT that you can find on Coinmarketcap.

I particularly like the community oriented way the dapp is setup to operate. The promise of encountering different people and learning from them while of course having the potential to earn. Another important aspect is the fact that it is lightweight, considering the roles it is stipulated to perform. The Android Version for example is only 48mb. You can get the IOS version here, while the Mac, Linux and Windows version are downloadable. The dapps are all in testing phase so feedback is going to very much appreciated, you can send feedback or reach out through Twitter as well.
