It's the beginning of a fresh new year and your little one is going to come home with loads more homework and some will be first timers at the job.

Why not make it fun and enjoyable, and take the 'work''out of homework with these tips:

Tip 1 - First and foremost, create a homework friendly environment for your child to work in. Let them sit at a table where the chair and the table is at a comfortable height ratio.

Tip 2 - Make sure that they have the necessary stationary when they start as to avoid interruptions of having to get up to fetch it, break in concentration will cause irritation and prolong the duration of time spent on homework.

Tip 3 - Have your child start with their least favourite subject and work their way through to their favourite as their concentration will decrease and therefore they will lose interest in completing their homework with enthusiasm.

Tip 4 - Should your child have a long list of homework, let them split the different subjects or topics, this will avoid confusion and discouragement.

Tip 5 - Work out some sort of reward system, after every subject or topic completed, allow your child 5 minutes of television or playing outside.  Make homework  as fun as possible, children respond well to things that interest them.

Tip 6 - Use colour pencils and blocks for spelling, use bouncy balls and marbles for math, use different sized fonts for projects and research subjects. If your child is having difficulty with a specific subject or topic, help them to break it down and understand the concept and meaning behind it first.

Tip 7 - Difficult subjects will require more effort and time, this might call for your assistance, but try and help as much as you can without completing the work for them. This is easier said than done, but if you use comparisons with something that your child enjoys then it would make it a lot easier.

These are only a few tips on how to assist your child in getting their homework done on time while having fun. If they have fun while completing a task they are more likely to remember the work for future reference.
